another cause of coil packs going is wiring to them can suffer insulation cracking (very badly, showing bare wires as the insulation shrinks and cracks exposing bare wires within the loom)
worth check the wiring...

replace that section if so

hey bill tar for that
1 thing the AA guy told me when the first one went in swindon was
the wiring on my LCR had been re done, all the cruddy plastic stuff had been taken off and had been replaced with insulation stuff, (tape)
if it goes again b4 i change them all, im going to pull it all apart, when i say im going to do it i might mean i may get you (bill) to do it along with a dyno run and a presure test...

getting chuffed off with it now, had the car not boosting today after a turd in a 318 BMW try and be a big man and show off to his girl lol, fortunatly for me it was running fine at this point but when i cam off the bypass it told another story, 0psi of boost no engine light, i had just fitted a carbon enclosed filter that i though was restricting the flow a little but that would make my boost bottom out, have just scanned it with a code reader, to my tottal suprise - RANDOM MISS FIRE - POT 3 = again... this is the forth pack to have gone in 3, im going to have a drive tomora and scan again to be sure but its doing my head in...
im off work till jan so determin to fix it all, im going to check all the wires, im going to put some greace down to the plugs to make sure its no water some how, im going to get the bonnet seal from seat to limit the water getting under there, im getting bloody fooked off with it now
also what spark plugs do ppl recomend? - Lee - Bill your thoughts
i can see the pires have been stripped out b4 i bought it and have been taped back up with insulation tape, i will strip that off and heat shrink it back i think.

so just to confirm people go for NGK spark plugs always?

I've never had any need to get anything other than NGK, whether it's for a large capacity beast like my Toledo, or highly strung Jap machinery like my other half's Nissan or even my Yamaha 600cc sportsbike. They're priced well, do what they say on the tin, and they don't mess about with gimmicks.

I do change them perhaps a bit more often than necessary, so that's 10k for my car, 8k for the Nissan and usually less than 5k on the bike. But the bike is extra sensitive to good ignition.

quick update, today on a spin to high wycombe i blew the pack on pot 4, then blew it again on the way home, pot 2 had also popped off, im now out of spairs lol
guna order a set from euro parts, also on the way home my pas side mirror cover came off, (my mrs caught it on the M40 lol) AND a had a strange growning sound soming from what i though was a back wheel but then sound like the front, i stopped AGAIN and decided to run round tighten the wheel bolts, not much to tighten on them but the noise stopped, what a shat day

also had the maf fail last week... so i need a set of coilpacks, prob best to get a pair of tear drop mirrors, 2 tires all by the end of the month then next month is tax, insurance, MOT AND my baby son should be born.... what a start to the year

:censored: right then guys... really need help but i have a Q Lee, Dan, Bill and open to every one else,
changed the packs on sunday, started the car, it was fine, drove it for the first time today, shouldnt have but wanted to see how it was (iv busted my ankle) only to find a popped coil pack, drove fine at low revs...
this is now 3 packs in pot 4 in 3 weeks, i noticed the spark plug was a little lose in there, i know its not good but could it cause the coil pack issue?? also prob cured my current fuel consumption lol there is also a huge chance its a defective pack and was just unlucky i put it on 4, mostly due to it not being used at all

spark plugs and coil packs...

guys just need a quick answer, can go in to depth if you like.

got a set of new coil packs and fitted them sunday, drove the car for the first time today and pot 4 went again

have found the plug to be a little lose in pot 4, could this have caused the popping of the packs as been through 3 in just a couple of weeks (2 used packs and 1 new one)
