im looking to have the side mouldings (door protector strips) on my car re-sprayed to match the car, how do i remove them so i dont loose the car to the paint shop whilst its being done.
my previous car was a Mk4 Ibiza cupra and was fed up of getting 'back-to-black' overspray on doors. so i got some masking tape and carefully went round the side mouldings then out newspaper around that. then i cleaned the mouldings with panel wipe. make sure you clean them well or the paint will have silicon hole in it. then 'key' (use 800 or 1000 grit sandpaper with water) them in order for the paint to stick. Then I sprayed 3 lights coats of aerosol gloss black paint on them. once dry (about 2-3hrs depending on how thick you sprayed )put some wax on them and for the rest of the time i owned the car they stayed black. very easy to do and good results
Hi there! I am new here and don't want to open new thread.
My name is Ilia, I am from Donetsk, Ukraine (Eastern non-EU Europe), own an 2007 Mk4 Seat Ibiza Sport 2.0 8V (yeah, yeah, we have such engine - 2 litre 8 Valve 115 hp; due to the strict ecological laws (Euro-3-4) you don't have it anymore in Europe as it is Euro-2).
I desperately trying to find an info about the door mouldings on 2007 Ibiza (Mk 4). I need to know how they are fited to the doors - glued or screwed or something? I mean are there any holes in the door panels? I want to take them off (have seen some pics of tuned Ibizas without mouldings - looks great) and need to know how it can be done. Is it difficult?
As i found out here: http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?p=1924708#post1924708 people say, that there are holes in the doors underneath them. All i wanna know is are there any holes or fittings in the metal of the doors or the door is flat and the mouldings are glued only? Is there anyone who knows exactly?
Took the door strips off my '05 Ibiza (fishing line used like cheesewire breaks the glue bond) then bought new ones from a dealer and had them sprayed yellow at a local bodyshop.
The strips have adhesive tape around the edges but there are prongs on the moulding that poke into holes in the doors. Means you can't get new strips on squint but there would therefore be a fair bit of filling and spray work involved if you want to leave them off.
I've got before and after pics on my website but on my PC I've also got a picture of the door with no strip attached. If you want me to upload it, I can.
OK, these forums don't let me add attachments, so I have added the picture to the album on my personal website for you. Not very exciting I'm afraid, lol.
Goto www.jtonline.info then click on Photos, then Ibiza. There are 16 photos and it's the 5th photo. First four are car with black strips, then there's the picture I've just added of the car with the strips removed, then the remainder are of the car with painted strips.
Hi there! Nice to meet you too. I wonder if we will be banned for this offropic?)))) If you'd like to continue this chat - write a private message or use ICQ. ))
