How do you know your brake switch is fine? It has 2 channels, one for the lights and one for the ecu to monitor so that the cruise can be deactivated when you brake. the lights may be coming on but the switch might still be goosed. VCDS scan would confirm the fault more effectively.

usually brake or clutch pedal switch, sometimes the stalk but rarely -- can also be checked with a multi meter -- on/off on both switches. if your brake lights come on then you know thats working so most likely clutch switch.

This is an issue that is frequently discussed on Briskoda, with many Octavia owners having the same problem. It can quite often be nothing more than dirty contacts in the switch. And after all, it's basically the same car, with exactly the same components fitted.

There is a procedure to take the switch apart and clean the contacts, I did the translation myself from the original Danish version. Check out post 14 of this link

Dead easy to do, took me less than half an hour from start to finish.

Hope this helps

Right followed the guide and managed to get the stalk open and access the workings, all looks factory fresh in there plenty of glease and no sign of any crude so looks like it's a switch.

Vag com help needed

Have you taken the switch completely apart?
The cruise switch on my Octavia looked factory fresh as well, but you couldn't see the dirt on the contacts themselves until it was dismantled. Even though it might look like it has plenty of grease in there, clean it off and give the guide a go -- it got my cruise working again, and it has never given any problems since. Plenty of grease means plenty of area for dust to stick to.
End of the day, it's not going to cost you anything to give it a good clean, but it will cost you if you start changing switches etc.
Good luck
Mike
