Hi all,

My car won't start today :-( Turning over but won't start. Red light was flashing on the temperature gauge and beeping. Just to give you abit of background as I have had problem with this before.

Earlier on in year when it was cold had a few issues in the morning car started OK but temp light flashed and beeped, did a search and brought up some threads on here with send to check the connection/sensor. I unplugged the black plug from the coolant tank and gave it a little clear and seemed to solve it. Happened a handful of times and then disappeared.
In the summer on one of the very hot days I went shopping (just around the corner) and when I came out car would not start. Temperature gauge didn't move from 0 when turned ignition even though the engine was still warm. Waited a while for my partner to arrive and on advise of garage they said to put foot to floor on accelartor whilst turning over and try and catch it. Eventually this worked and got it started. Took it to the garage the following day and they couldn't find any faults on the computer and was running fine.

Did the same thing a few weeks later, called out the RAC as I couldn't get hold of anyone and had my little one in the car and they towed it to my mother inlaws which is not to far from the garage I use. My partner arrived just as they took it off the lorry he tried it and it started up straight away!!!! Although had registered a fault. On way to garage the following day to get the fault reading the light turned out and again registered nothing when I got there!!

Cold start earlier in week engine started fine but beeped and red light on temp gauge flashed turned off the engine and back on again and stop. Today gone to go out and car won't start, turning over but won't start. After about 30 seconds the beeping and red light started flashing again. I have tried to clean the probes and topped up the coolant as it was half way. The beeping and flashing no longer happens but car still won't start.

No point ringing the auto rescue I use as they couldn't fix or find any problem last time and my garage is closed today so will have to ring them in the morning.
But any advice would be greatly received.

Thanks Cheryl

Hi there. Maybe worth changing the the coolant sensor. Also had a similar problem with the car not starting every now and again and it was the crank shaft angel sensor.

Crankshaft position sensor!
If it happens again put car in gear with handbrake off an try and rock it forward or back a bit. Works sometimes but I'd say defo a new cps. Not an expensive job!
