Hi Folks,

I have been following up this thread for a while not but I'm still wondering if the Golf R exhaust is a significant upgrade compared to a default one on standard GPF Cupra ST.

From what I understood:

Cupra R ST GPF (blacked tail pipes)
-5F9253609BA + 5F9253 609AT (approx £1100 !)
vs
Golf R variant GPF (chromed tail pipes)
- 5G9253609BJ + 5G9253609BC (approx £400)

I'm wondering why there is a such gap between those options, both available as OEM pieces...cannot only be the tailpipe color.

Am I missing anything? Would the sound result be the same on a GPF car? Similar to a Cupra R ST (having a GPF as well).

Painting a Golf R variant GPF tailpipes would probably do the job...but...I have to find a high temp black paint that wont peel off in few months.

Thanks,
Its probably to stop the less informed from just turning their car into a 'limited edition' Cupra R ST. Where as the Golf R parts are just a general model

Thanks!

based on your feedbacks, looks like a no-brainer then...Golf R option seems to be the way to go.

Is BJ a new number for what was BB or is it to do with GPF

The GPF version doesn't have a middle resonator - only one rear backbox per side.

The exhaust I have from the Golf R 7.5 does have a middle resonator and is similar to what was in the Cupra Carbono edition.

I believe that the Cupra R has a GPF version of the same exhaust which has the middle resonator deleted from factory.

BJ is the OEM recommended part by Maxton who installed a Golf R catback on a MY19 Cupra ST (with GPFs). According to them, that's pretty straight forward.

Yes, my experience (minus the whole blowtorch and pulling to straighten the bend done on transportation...) is that it is plug and play - unbolt the original exhaust, drop it, remove original diffuser, fit Golf exhaust (everything bolts and fits in same location without mods) and then either curt the original diffuser or get the Maxton that was mentioned on this thread.

Question may be weird but...are both silencers delivered in a single piece?

As per Etka schemas, there is a clamp (piece n°11 - see link below) to assemble both refs ( 5G9253609BJ + 5G9253609BC for instance) but I haven't seen any in the pics shared in this thread.

yes the part numbers above are for the individual sides separetly ,U will need the clamp marked 11.
I’m not sure if anyone has the part numbers for the complete exhaust on 2019 golf R with gpf.

Evening all.
I own a Golf R estate (sorry). I bought it new on a 2019 plate and have been following your exhaust improvements for the GPF system for a while. Im after improved noise and I’m confused as to why swapping the cupra exhaust to a golf one offers such improvement.
What does the Cupra have/not have over the Golf that makes the exhaust work so much better for you?
My wife has a 2018 Golf GTI and I’d be happy with the noise they produce for my R. Im not after anything mind blowing just a little more sporty

Thanks

Hi, that's all about gaz speed. Default cupra ST exhaust is significantly different from the golf R/cupra R ST. Have a look at my 2 last posts you'll see the difference. Unfortunately as you already own a R (having a direct exhaust), the best option to improve noise may be to look at aftermarket alternatives.
I hope that helps.

Hi.
On the bottom pictures,
Is the pipe coming from the engine cut?
At the top it looks closed / squeezed.
Sorry if the qs is not properly explained, English is not my mother tongue.

Edit: picture add for clarification

Hi, do you know if the OEM exhaust can be "safely" cut to ease the transport ? If so, where would you cut it? After the Y split (and toward both silencers) ?
Thanks,
