Cupra Brake Fail, Help Please??

hey guys, leaving my estate earlier today and approached the slip road and tried to brake and they failed completly. the pedal went rock hard and had no/very very little brakes at all. after a few seconds of paninc i slowed using the handbrake, with my foot still hard on the brakes, they started working again and the ABS kicked in. the brakes then turned to normal but the ABS and TSC lights are now on.

the brakes are now working fine and the pedal is good. with the ingnition off the pedal pumps until hard and then compresses when the engine is turned on (so normal i think). i dont think there is a leak anywhere so im unsure what this could be.

the car is booked in with my mechanic tomorrow but i want to give him a heads up.

p.s, this is the 3rd time this has happened so about time i got it sorted.

ive done a quick search but didn't have time to go through all 25 pages of results as ive got loads on this evening!!!

any help appreciated, thanks, Jay

Do you have standard or Brembo brakes?

Have you checked your pad and discs? Is there life left in them?
Have you checked the fluid level?

Could be your discs / pads glazed with the road salt, hence returning to normal, but sounds more severe by your description.

The only time my brakes failed completely was when my servo packed in on my last car, but the brakes were completely inoperable and didn't return till I replaced the servo.

It could be a sticky piston, quite likely with these road conditions.

fluid is ok and front brakes are ok. rears need new disks. brakes are standard. am doing the rear disks soon and then a fluid change.

by sticky piston, do you mean in the calipers or in the servo/master cylinder???

thanks for the quick reply.

In the calliper i'm thinking Jamie.
Sometimes the outer dust seals split and all kinds of crud gets in.

im confused as i would be happy if it was complete failure as it would be easier to fix. i done a good 20 miles after it happened today and it was fine. just want it sorted as me ant the misses share the car and want it to be safe. i'll see what my mechanic says as he's pretty good.

the first couple of times it happened i put it down to the severe cold but its getting warmer now so im getting a bit worried!!!

spoke to seat in essex earlier and they confirmed the recall pipe had been fitted.

its been in the garage today and had new fluid and a new driverside front abs sensor. apparently the fluid was pretty had it and contained some water and some black lumpy stuff.

so i'll drive on with care and hope this sorts the problem!!!!
