I have brought a cupra r steering wheel off ebay for my boyfriends MK 4 Ibiza and the airbag does not fit!!
The steering wheel is exactly the same size so p*ssed off

any one know why that is ?

and does anyone know where i can get hold off a cupra air bag please?
otherwise i will have 2 put it back up for sale

iam sure you will already know this but just incase there isnt a cupra r for the mk4 ibiza so i think your best bet without messing around would be to sell it on and either buy a km4 cupra or a facelift fr steering wheel

what car did the steering wheel come off? the airbag's are supplied seperately and vary accross the models so you can't fit a mk3 airbag to a mk4 steering wheel

you may have to re-wire the airbag connectors to make it compatible...i stuck an mk4 Ibiza FR steering wheel plus airbag in VAZY's mk1 Leon FR+ TDi

can you give us a bit more info?

its of a petrol 1.8 turbo cupra mk 4 ibiza. it has a red band red stitching and the cupra badge at the bottom.it is a 3 spoke airbag looks like a normal m4 ibiza air bag..
my boyfriend has a mk4 2l tdi and we found out its 270 for a new cupra airbag!

is it similar to this:

if so then i'd inspect it to see why it doesn't fit...seems +/- the same shape as standard

get some pics up of the backside of airbag and inside of steering wheel if possible

Thats a good pic mate ;)

when you say it don't fit do you mean it doesn't click into place at all...is it overlapping the centre bit?

or do you just mean the airbag connector don't fit?

Personally, when it comes to potentially life staving equipment such as air bag's, seat belts, and such like I leave it alone. Who's to know after you have tampered with it in any way shape or form if it's going to work??? Not as if you can run test on it is it? And to find out the other way isn't much fun either! ...

the first way to find out is whether the airbag light stays on after switching over...if it doesn't then you should be ok

plus, the airbag isn't "life-saving"...it is to reduce risk of spinal injury or whiplash. the seatbelt is the lifesaver

i could be right in thinking the standard wheels are slightly larger compared to the CUPRA wheel as this is a sports wheel...even though the airbag design may be similar the CUPRA one could indeed be a tad smaller and if they relocated the pins to make sure no-one tries to retrofit a standard airbag to em
