Got my ibiza booked in to get cupra wishbone bushes, At Star Performance dysart got told that 4 wheel alignment needs to be done aswell i assume this needs to be done
does anyone notice a difference once cupra wishbone bushes are fitted?
I used Starperformance to get this done on my wife's Polo a few years ago, unfortunately, I spotted that the bush was accidentally fitted in backwards on one side. They changed it (I supplied new bush) a few weeks later, but, after 12 months, the two front tyres had been worn down enough to fail an MOT - these tyres had been fitted just prior to driving across to Starperformance - so were brand new. Oh and yes they did do the usual four wheel re-alignment first time round - but did they do it again after replacing the O/S bush the second time? I found them okay but was more than a bit annoyed to need to get two new tyres (after 8500 miles) and needing to pay my VW dealer for another four wheel re-alignment. So, the moral of this story is, check both bushes before paying (just in case) both bushes should fit in the same direction - ie the "flat" face to the rear and the concave, or stepped face to the front!
Yeah i do agree with you when i was speaking to him he sure knows his stuff about all VAG cars my brothers arosa was there due to a fault he knew straight away what it was unlike Fife Seat who'll charge through the roof for diagnostics
Star, problem is that it is not Jim nowadays that does all the work, I think that he has a son working there and another guy, my experience might not have been typical, but when you have used a good place only once (so far), then you can only base what you think but how the job went, and when I initially phoned Jim to tell him about the "reverse fitting" of one bush he did not sound like he believed me - so that did not make my initial idea of using a gentle approach being the right way to do things! The general line seemed to be that I (jo public) did not know what he was talking about and that they (Star) just would not have done that job in that way. Sorry but the truth was that they accidentally did and never apologised or admited it, just redid the one side for free - not a good experience, I did not expect them to lick my shoes or anything - just to say "sorry we messed up" - but that did not happen. And I had been singing their praises before that time as they did do theh correct job on changing the cambelt - accidents happen we are all human - just when you've paid up and discovered that the work was not done right that it hurts a bit. I would have prefered to have be totally satisfied that the work had been done right first time - maybe they are growing too big - it happens!
I'd still go back there for Passat B5 front suspension overhaul - if they are competitive though!
No, not really, it was only after the car started to squeak a bit that I had a look under it - the "flat" face of the bush was fouling the rear of the TCA - which is why the standard bush has a tapering recess and theh Cupra ones have a stepped front face as the rear of the TCA is a lot bigger diameter than the hexagonal pin that passes through the bush. How do you check for this - by looking under the car! Compare both sides, the flat bush face should be to the rear of the console - ie the point where the end of the hexagonal pin appears. I noticed this within a few hours of getting the car back - but trusted Star to have made no mistakes and tried to convince myself that it made no differance - although deep down I know it was wrongly fitted. It was getting the squeaking noises that gave me the excuse to approach them about this.
i must admit i paid quite a bit more to have mine done, along with the smaller superpro polybushes in the wishbones, at Awesome, however, i trust them completely. Benefits as above, the ride has definitely stiffened up nicely.
I need to get the front rear wishbone bushes done on my wifes Ibiza FR Tdi, are they the same as the Cupra ones or should I look at gettign Cupra ones whilst at it?
