• Hey Guest💡👉 We have just launched our new Dealer Directory and review service Find out more now
There is a clause in the brochure that says the spec is subject to change at any time.

Mine had minor differences to the brochure and I was never told it would be the MY08 spec.

Xenons are a big difference though, so I would get onto both the dealer and SEAT straight away.

The website also still lists them as standard. I take it your bought the car from a genuine U.K dealer?

I was aware of the 'specification subject to change' but if something as major as Xenons is changed and they still rely on 'specification subject to change' then it would be a serious case of false advertising, and they wouldn't stand a chance.
I have spoken to the dealer but they didn't get back to me.
It's a shame I have to take it up with the dealer as it's not their fault and they've been very good.

Tomorrow I am thinking of driving it to the dealer and giving them the car/keys/manual back and telling them to contact me when they have a solution to the problem using Seat standard parts or a new car. What do you guys think?

If that all fails, speak to seat c.s. 0500 22 22 22 - but as others have all said on here, Xenons *should* be expected on any Cupra ordered up until early 2008, especially a Cupra ordered in October 07 ish.

Would expect the dealer to fix, or replace with another new cupra to the correct spec.

If you start having "issues" post here, i'm sure plenty of people can give advice. :)

/edit to add, fitting xenons might not be possible at this stage (new bumper, new lights, new hoses for the washers, remove headlight adjustment from dashboard etc. May well be the only thing they can do is re-order a new one. :(

If you look under the bonnet at the far back right of the engine bay there is a week number and year. It is engraved vertically. Mine was week 18 2007

Mine was week 42 and I have the xenons, I'd do what you have said and take it back to the dealer. Its suppose to come as standard so you want it as standard and nothing less.

Rampage did you get anywhere with the dealer?

At the end of the day it is their responsibility on a number of counts, firstly they should be aware of the latest specs (which SEAT dealers don't seem to be any good at) it actually states in the brochure "Please refer to your local dealer for the latest specifications"

The contract is between you and them and they have failed to deliver what they stated.

I'd have thought that the PDI should have picked this up. It's pretty obvious to see if a car had xenons.

As said before SEAT Customer Services are worth a call. I have found them really good in the past, they sorted out a few problems for me.

Hope that you get it sorted mate.

I went to the dealer today, they said they can't find out untill 2nd january because the person they need to speak to isn't in untill then.
I said I didn't want the car, but apparently they didn't have the room to keep it, so I brought it home again.

Apparently the PDI didn't pick it up as they only check the light work, not what type they are.

I will give them untill wednesday, if there's no luck then I'll phone Seat.

I'm going to speak to consumer direct and SMMT.

It's amazing how many problems I've read on here and thought "it'll never happen to me!"

I'd possibly still give SEAT a try today if I was you.

I just don't trust dealers to tell the truth and it could be an excuse that the person they need to speak to isn't in until then.

I got left in the lurch when I found that my Cupra was delayed by at least a month, the salesman was off work indefinately and nobody else claimed to know that I was promised the car by a certain date. A call to SEAT put me straight in touch with manager of the dealership and it got sorted to the best of their ability.

The only thing I'm worried about contacting Seat directly is in the Sale of Goods Act it says somthing about only dealing with the retailer, contacting the manufacturer without the retailers permission can sometimes mean the retailer is void of responsibility.
It's something along those lines anyway!

It was rather upsetting saying to the dealer today that I "didn't want the car" after saving for 2 years to buy a Leon.

Thanks for your help by the way :)

Not sure on that one.

I do know that the contract is between you and the dealer (and possibly the finance company).

I have a leaflet from the SMMT which I got in my car. If you want me to scan it in, just send me a PM with your e-mail address and I'd be happy to do it and send it to you.

Yes, the contract is between myself and the dealer, Seat are, unfortunately, a third party.

I have the SMMT leaflet thanks, the dealer gave me one in the car folder and I also found one in the car!

Would deffo get onto the dealer. Do not accept a cash offer. It is one of the main distiguishing features over the FR & once you have used a car with the 'look round corner' bi xenons, you wouldnt want the standard lights. I am glad they were standard but would be reluctant to put them on my option list on an MY08 car. Good luck

I wonder if its worth you putting it in writing to the dealer anyway (and hand delivering the letter if you live nearby).

I'm just concerned they might turn round and say you'd left it too long.

Out of interest my mate bought a 2 year old Scooby from a main dealer and it was sold as having the 'Prodrive' pack fitted. He found that this wasn't fitted (by comparing it to another car with it fitted and ringing Prodrive themselves). He managed to get refunded fully, even though they had already sold his part ex on.

If it was build 2 weeks before u ordered the car sounds like they sourced it somewhere else if all UK spec ones have Xenons as standard.

What options did u select when u ordered ?

Cheers

I take it you will be also minus the "headlamp washers" unless you had the winter pack? So that will be something else to mention when getting this sorted out.

Good luck though mate, I think everyone on here is somewhat shocked over the deletion of lights.

I'm going to have to agree with that comment,

something doesn't sound right as far as i was aware they have only just changed the uk spec not to have xenon's, thinking logically it would take them around 12 weeks to filter down, so if you have already got yours why does it not have them ????

I will put it in writing if I don't have any luck after they speak to Seat on 2nd Jan.
I reported it within 5-6 days of purchase and said I'd give the car back to them, but they didn't have the room to keep it so told me to take it home. It's parked up now and won't be driven untill I hear from them.

To awnser other questions:

I won't be accepting a cash offer, not will I accept third party upgrades.

The dealer checked the chassis number today and it came back as being around build week 48. Whats stamped on the chassis is definately the build date, isn't it?

Options were:
Bluetooth
Convenience Pack
Air-Bag disablement

It hasn't got the headlamp washers, thats what made me realise!

I'm assuming it's some sort of prototype for the UK version without Xenons.
Or it could be a simple mistake at the factory, they built it for another country's use when it should have been UK.

A 'friend' just phoned Seat and asked if he ordered a Cupra today would it come with Xenon's as standard.

"Yes it would"

It was pre-reg, so I'm going to see who it was first registered to, before me.
I ordered it as a pre-reg I mean. It should still have been custom built as I wanted it.

It's definately a 8R Cupra though, which is the latest chassis.

I went into my local dealer about a week ago and picked up a Seat Leon brochure which stated that Bi-Xenon headlights were standard on the Cupra. The brochure is dated 08/07 on the back cover. Today I have been in again and the new brochure is out (dated 12/07) which says that they are an optional extra. Also the black and white wheels are pictured as optional extras.
Hope you get sorted and hope this info helps in some way.;)
