The Sport had leather? :S Which parts are meant to be leather? My Sport has black and grey trim semi-bucket seats at the front and standard black and grey trim in the rear... The steering wheel is leather that's all I know of.

the sports never had leather as standard. (leather was an option)
However the early cupras were mechanically the same as the sport, but had leather, auto wipers, cd changer, dimming rear view mirror, ESP etc etc as standard. But they cost more than the sport. (£18,000). At this time the cupra was not an established 'brand' and so were ordered as spec'd up sports and sold as cupras. I think the 'rebadging' process took place at Uk dealers which may explain why on some early cupras the badges are not always in the same place.

If you have normal trim then it sounds like you have a sport. However leather was dropped from the cupra later on and the price reduced so it really depends on what year yours is. But if its got sport on the V5 and normal seats then id say its a sport.

Mine is an 'X' with the leather memory seats, cd changer, climate control, auto dimming mirror, esp.

It says Sport on the logbook and insurance databases but Cupra on the back.

Not sure about what engine code it is, will check tonight

Matt

I think we have to be very clear on the fact that "Cupra" exists only within the UK when talking of Mk1 Leons. When the cars left the factory they were 1.8T Sport models, some with electric leather seats, ESP and rain sensor and some without. They only become Cupras when the dealer in the UK sticks the little badge on the boot lid.
It makes no difference what it says on your V5 logbook or insurance docs, SEAT were notoriously innacurate with the registration of these models and it varied from one dealer to another.

If the car was made prior to March 2001 when Sport was officially dropped in the UK, its only a "proper" Cupra if it has MEMORY electric seats, ESP and rain sensing wipers, anything else is a Sport even if it has a Cupra badge on the boot.

Mine is X reg, AUQ engine :) Cupra. Leather, memory seats, |ESP, mirrors, climate control, auto dimming mirror. But no cruise control and (which i couldnt belive at start) no computer :/.
