Yeah that deffo looks like an alarm siren. you say it works, do you mean the doors close and the LED flashes, or do you mean an actual alarm starts sounding if you set it off? basically the OEM alarm uses the horn as a siren, rather then an actual stand alone siren like the one shown.

The central locking beeps when you lock and unlock the car, and the LED flashes inside the car. Also, the alarm sounds when you re-connect the battery (you can turn it off with the remote) so i'm assuming it would work when someone tried to break in...

I wonder if it's some sort of sensor?..

Could it be a bonnet sensor? I.e. senses when the bonnet is opened and alarm is armed?
