Donington BTCC

If the company behind Donington have removed their terms and conditions from their site (which they appear to have done, when I just checked) and are still advertising and selling tickets for BTCC meeting which at present seems highly likey to be cancelled, if it isn't already, then they MAY well be committing offences under the Consumer Protection Regulations 2008 and other associated legislation. That would be a matter for the local Trading Standards Department to investigate.

IF they are taking ticket money on a non-refundable basis, that is trading whilst technically insolvent, i.e. owing too much to other existing creditors to meet all their liabilities or legitimate claims for compensation from teams or Consumers left out of pocket by any cancellation, then further serious offences under the Insolvency Act or Companies Act MAY have been committed.

Be aware that doesn't necessarily help anyone get compensation.

Certainly this is far from a transparent situation and I fear the fallout may be ugly in the longer term.

Donington Park update.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There was considerable concern earlier today that our event may need to be postponed.

However, that is now not the case.

The senior management at Donington Park have informed me that the prospect of postponing the event has now passed and that they are fully confident that the work required for their track licence will be completed in time for our event (and for the event on the weekend preceding ours).

A huge amount of effort is being expended at Donington Park to get the work completed and, in fact, they have now increased and accelerated this effort even further to ensure our event takes place - and I am also very confident that this will be achieved.

TOCA, Donington and all involved just look a bit disorganised and unprofessional at the moment. They are only damaging their own reputations.

Shame really, as the BTCC is the greatest Touring Car Championship in the world in my opinion.

Alan Gow has just insisted on the BTCC forum that this will go ahead.

Which is good news for people who already have tickets.

But guarantees are funny old things.

Remember that weather forcast in October '88, Michael Fish said "there will definetly not be a hurricane", then the wind got up, and the **** hit the fan.

1987 and it was taken out of context ;)

How did Michael fit in to this?
"Earlier on today apparently a lady rang the BBC and said she heard that there was a hurricane on the way. Well don't worry if you're watching, there isn't."

This is frequently quoted from Michael's evening weather broadcast on the 15 October, the night the storm hit. However Michael wasn't talking about the UK at this point and was referring to a story in the News.

"My remarks referred to Florida and were a link to a news story about devastation in the Caribbean that had just been broadcast. The phone call was a member of staff reassuring his mother just before she set off there on holiday!"

"I did broadcast saying 'batten down the hatches there's some really stormy weather on the way' - if the full clip is used all would be revealed."
