Maybe its an age thing how old are you guys? dunno i must admit i did think a diesel dumpvalve was a bad idea but i cant help but love the wosshh noise and to be honest my car doesn't really sound like a diesel if i took the badges off other than the black smoke i doubt you would notice, but hey we all learn by our mistakes don't we so i'm going to buy one then decide wether i like it of not as i haven't ever heard a sound clip of a forge diesel dumpvalve

Agreed, a petrol dumpvalve sounds good, its actually good for performance IIRC. But is a diesel turbo not different from a petrol one? In terms of pressure etc, I cant imagine it producing the same whoooosh.

Diesel turbos actually run higher boost that petrols in the majority of standard cars. Dump valves do nothing for performance neither, they are a turbo longevity tool, in other words, if the boost had nowhere to go once you close the throttle butterfly it will stall the turbo.
Stalling a turbos' fine blades when they are spinning at tens of thousands of revs a split second earlier isnt good for them and will eventually lead to them ripping off and heading towards the engine. GT4 celicas loved doing this even with a valve fitted and were bloody expensive to replace as a friend found out.

Actually saying my car doesn't sound like a standard diesel is a reasonable statement if you ask anyone that has a diesel with an exhaust and a fmic on their car they will more than likely tell you it sounds completly different i wouldn't exoect you to understand as you have a 1.8T maybe if were ever at the same show one day i can take you out and prove you wrong!! I think it is a very personal thing and if i want one i will get one as i said before if it sounds sh!t i will take it off and flogg it!! by the way just thought i would point out you seem to know alot about warts on the end of cocks and women running away??? personal experience is it????

from what i have read it will be a similar sound possibly a bit louder as this is a dumpvalve its not like one of those speakers with a swich under the pedal.

MikeyH, I also drive a pdtdi octavia and it sounds like a tractor, no amount of pipework is going to stop that rattle. As for massive warts, nah they arnt that big really!

But seriously, the size and orientation of the intercooler will have no effect on the sound coming out of the exhaust.

Is it not the tractory engine noise thats the worst bit though?!

And as far as I'm aware adding an FMIC makes very little difference to diesel engines.

And thirdly you said your car didn't sound like a diesel, not that it didnt sound like a standard diesel

You've got to expect people to disagree with you when you post something up on a forum, dont throw your toys out of the pram.

Personally I wouldnt bother with the dump valve, but it's your car at the end of the day.

firstly i'm going to say i am not throwing my toys out the pram at no point whilst writing any of the posts here have i been angered in any way atall actually i am pretty sure i was smiling the whole time i know people thing a diesel dupmvalve sounds "chavy" but hey were not all the same. I fully expect people to disagree i know 90% of people on here disagree with them.

i fitted my fmic a few days ago and i can tell you 100% and i have loads of people that have been in the car before and after it makes the engine sound alot different especially when coming down the revs i couldn't belive it myself to be honest wasn't expecting it to do anything apart from help bring intake temps down!!

Have you done any of the things i have said above to your Octavia, if you havent then that comment is completly irrelivant if you have and it still sounds the same as standard you have been conned real bad (exhaust tips maybe) lol

Get laid? hell my second child is due next week! haha
Im all for diesles in that they whip the ass of petrols in mpg stakes but regardless of piping the diesel engine revs to 4500 rpm and as a result is very agricultural, not the turbo, not the exhaust but the actual block and head. They are heavy clunking revs and unless you have a v6 or something a little smoother it will always sound more like a tractor than a racecar. (banter mode is truely on, but ill never be convinced it sounds non diesel like ! )

i never thought id get used to my car sounding like a taxi.. but when im getting the mpg i do and pull through the gears after i had it mapped.. im quite happy.

as for making the car sound like a non diesel... it will allways rattle and i cant see how fitting a fmic and zorst will stop the rattle.
