Cheers. Sounds like Al might be able to sort me out with a DMF. Failing that I might be asking you where you managed to find that one!! LOL

Clutch ordered and on its way. Should be here Thursday :)

After speaking to various people and considering many options Kris sorted me out with a Sachs uprated plate and cover as well as a release bearing.

The plan was to remove the box on Saturday and inspect the flywheel then sort a replacement if needed and try and complete on Monday as I've got the day off but I've gone and pulled a muscle in my shoulder blade so I'm struggling to do anything never mind work on the car :(
Looking at options of having someone else do it now incase my shoulder is still sore.

If a flywheel is needed I have options thanks to Al. He might have one for me or the local motorfactors recon they can get one for about £330. They supplied one for an S3 recently and there was no issues so that sounds good :)

I'd been thinking about fitting a diff while the box was out for a clutch but wasn't expecting to do the clutch this soon LOL. I'll have a look around and see what prices they are going for. Never taken one of these boxes apart so would probably just take the box and diff to somewhere that can do it. No time to learn on a daily driver that needs to be on the road so not tackling it myself.

Good stuff mate

My clutch is ok so far (....lol) so I SHOULD be able to afford to change clutch and install diff at same time to save on labour costs, but if the clutch starts to die soon, I'll have to do it on two separate occasions :(

My stock dmf cost 330 Duncan, sounds like the right price if you've got someone that knows where to go. I spoke to the guy that did mine today, said its an easy enough job where replacing a clutch is concerned.

All good now then with your new clutch and fly?

Yeah, I'm happy to change the clutch myself. Done loads over the years, never on a leon right enough but for the most part - a clutch is a clutch. There are always little quirks and quick ways you learn the more you do something but thats what you learn through experience. :) Pretty sure it says 5 hours to do it, might take me a little longer but thats life. Just this shoulder that might be the issue :(

If money's not a big issue get a good local VAG place to do the work, saves ruining yourself and not be able to finish the job off.

Its bang on mate cheers, feels nice, heavier than stock but that's expected, small amount of judder setting off from standstill but barely noticeable and I'm sure it'll be fine once bedded in.

Yeah I know a man who used to work for the local dealer up here so I've dropped him a line to see if he can do it if I'm not able. I can supply the tools, ramp etc he just needs to turn up and do the job. :)

Excellent news. Now you can turn up the power and enjoy!! :)

Sounds like a sweet deal, get him in ;)

Yeah it's bang on mate, just going to run it in nice and steady, last thing I want is to destroy it and have to pay out again lol

LOL The fact he's not replied means he's either not interested or he's offshore.
Shoulder a bit better today so might be OK for the weekend. Hope so as I want to get this clutch in and enjoy the car again.

Good stuff. Yes sensible approach. I'll be off driving long runs every night to get 300 / 400 miles on it as soon as possible! LOL

Haha, maybe he's seen this thread and gone on holiday!

I'm saying about 3-400 miles of urban driving, plenty of clutch use as opposed to motorway driving where its barely given a workout.

Indeed mate, I went and spoke to a local VAG specialist today as recomended by some friends who had work done there (one just had a clutch fitted to his S3)
Because I am supplying the parts he has no guarentee to offer other than his labour so he's happy to fit the clutch at a weekend as a casher for £230 (6hrs £39/hr).
Decided its not worth risking my shoulder for that sort of cash so its done! Just got to give him a shout when the clutch is here. He did say that the last 5 he has done, the DMF was trashed on them all so best to get that and also renew the flywheel bolts.

Cheers G. Was on the phone to Al last night and would have come down to Crail with him and yourself on Sunday but I'm in Glasgow for a cup final and clutch will need run in anyway :( Will get down there at some point though. Would be good to meet more like minded Seat guys and also see how the car compares to a few others. :)

Pretty much the same as I paid for fitting, thought it was a good price.

Sounds like it's a package deal on these cars, if you're getting a new clutch you're getting a new fly too! The guy who did mine said he was shocked how bad it was when he took it off.

Works out bloody expensive but it has to be done.

Yeah its £1,100 I wasn't expecting to spend on that car just yet but hopefully thats it for now.

Going to order tyres this month too. Going for Goodyear F1 Asymetrical's I think.
235/35/19 for £135 each + £19 = £559
Been thinking about changing to 18's though so just looked at price for the same in that size.
225/40/18 are £93.53 each + £19 so £393. I think thats the size fitted to the Cupra??

Not only should this help with the turn in and handling feel / feedback, its a saving £166.
If I can pick up a set of 18" Cupra wheels for sensible money I think I might go down this route.
The 19" tyres I will finish off on the next track day and I can replace them at some point so I have a spare set.

If you're paying for the 18s though the money you'd save on the tyres would be spent on the wheels.

And personal opinion is the 19s fitted the R look really nice.

the difference would then pay its self back the next time I need tyres! And I have 2 sets of wheels to show for it. And I honestly believe I will be able to get more out of the car with a better tyre wall as I'll feel more through the steering. Not to mention the lower rotating mass and lighter unsprung weight ;)

Your right though..... the 19's do look bloody good!
Plus I've not had decent tyres and a geo set-up done as I still have the springs and ALK to fit first.

Will have a think about it.

They'd be useful as winter wheels but personally I don't think I'd want to downsize.

I think they suit the car well and fill the arches nicely.
