So about £12 for a cheapo and £40 for a proper one???

I want to be able to do everything.

Genuine hex-can retails about £260 which is a lot of money however I'd hate to use a fake and it trash my car if it goes tits up recoding

No one had answered my original question on cost. I'm pretty sure my mechanic friend has an original.

My Vi Monitor shows me fault codes but I fancy the alarm chirp.

I thought I did above? Anyway you can buy a cheap ebay hex-can copy for about £45 or a genuine one for £260. Non hex-can are cheaper ranging from about £10 for lite version

Anyone willing to lend me a cable and software so I can programme mine?
We used to share them about when I was on a vw forum.
Normal rate was £5 plus 2 way postage cost.

It just meant that other users got a chance to do quick jobs, and the lender ended up getting his cable paid for by renting it out!

Just a thought,

If you havnt sourced one by the time mine has turned up and Ive finshed tweeking it I will lend you mine Pal! (oviously if you end up bricking your car I cant be held responsible!:p)

Enjoy!
This is the one I ordered, they arrive in decent time considering. Mine was 12.12 and I used it yesterday to switch on alarm chirp, ability to turn off DRL's, activate chequered wallpaper in DIS etc etc.
The important thing is to use it on a computer without an internet connection.
My advice, use it in a virtual machine (like the free Virtual Box from Oracle) that way it's not installed on your host OS but a siloed one where you can disable internet connectivity. The reason for this is VCDS will call home and flash your cable rendering it unusable. I accidentally did this with my previous cable, but at £12 bought a new one upon changing to the Mk3.

Merry Christmas!

Hope everybody had a great Xmas! :)
Thanks rcopus for the link, I have ordered one from China too for £12 I don't mind waiting for the cable. Hopefully I can get the needle sweep, and alarm chirp done with the cable too, certainly worth a punt at £12! :D

Being a complete noob at VCDS I do have a quick question, will enabling these features affect the warranty in any way?? TIA

Nope, won't void any warranty since those options are just disabled because of marketing strategies. Go for it! you can do a lot of thins with the VCDS and also monitor your car's performance and diagnostics when something's not working like it should!

Thanks for the info, can't wait to test it out then once I get delivery of the car and cable.

Can you guys with the £12 china ones do the security access bit as mine will not let me do that??

I also have one I paid about £12 for and does everything apart from security access which prevents a lot of mods on the 2013 cars. Most adaptions for the 2013 Leon require security access. I just get a cable not registered error message.

Cheers mate, that would be great!

I have an older version that I used to programme my Golf, Scirocco and wives Polo, but nothing works on the new Leon, so need a newer version!

Cheers

Is that "yes yours flags up the same error message" or "yes, yours will allow you security access?

Are you also using a cheap cable?

Yes its a cheap cable and yes I've been able to use security access :)
My previous posts in this thread answer both of these questions, but it's Christmas :p

If you can't use security access at all, you may be using the freeware version of VCDS perhaps?

Yes, you are right. I appear to have an unregistered freeware version! Good job I only payed £12 for it.

Just ordered same as you. Thanks for link.

What is this code used for please?? Sorry for another noob question :)

that's the code for the 09-Central Electric module on the new leon. When you try to adapt some options like cornering fog lights, staging etc etc. The car won't let you until you go to the Security Access section within the Central Electrics module and type that 31347 code.

The one I've been looking for is the security code for the Brakes module, does anybody has it? I want to adjust the XDS settings on my car for a more agressive setting.
