get what you say jonjay and never occurred to me either, simplest things never do...
would get me on the road and save some dosh as well. Would it be fine though that the plunger doesn't work or do you think a good clean may fix that?

Or is it just too early and I need another Coke?

Redbull is better :p

Well i unplugged my EGR vaccum pipe and blocked it with a screw, has made no difference what so ever.. so until i can find my damn 1/4 Drive Socket im going to put it back on.. couldnt get the exhaust manifold allan bolts off.. and lost most of my knuckles in the process..

I see what your saying about the Wingnut mod, im no mechanic but i cant get my head round that, just opening the valve fully, and with it blanked the ASV wont be able to do much.. :confused:!

Has anyone who's blocked there vaccum pipe noticed that the turbo is considerably louder and makes a little Giggle when you turn the engine off (only way i can describe it!) :think:

Im guessing its because the turbo can be heard coming through the top of the egr valve where the vaccum pipe should be.

agree it confused me for a while but let it roll.

when i phone egrvalve.co.uk and asked, what do i do with the x2 small diameter tubes that come in from the top and the reply was, do nothing with them, just leave open and tied up secure at the top.

seemed weird to me, but as gases get pushed in, and nothing now to push in, all is ok.
What have others done who have a race pipe? with the tubes?

Gutted out the plunger and smoothed.

cheers for the pics jonjay.
looks like i will be cleaning and re-attaching at the weekend, oh the joy of oild covered hands at a wedding :) should impress the gf to end...

stupid q, where does the blanking plate go?
is it the bottom where to two real bugger allen bolts are?

i will eventually go down the b road:
replace with a proper egr just modified as needed.

got my mum to visit two local scrappies this moring and was politely told we have none in stock and you'll have fun getting one as well -> not what was after....
170 for a new one from dealer
70 for egrvalve straight through pipe

so there are, 60 for a brand new one, half price....

some part numbers look a bit wrong though.
On etka v7.0 update260 it offers -> 038 151 501 T

should be fun checking that aginst what is being said.
thugh i know the one i have is different, possibly been updated. will check at stealers tomorrow morning on way to work and update

[edit]
this one -> 120467555504
has no asv that i can see?
do they not come with one now?
[/edit]

Be warned cleaning them is a right pain. Oven cleaner broken down the soot well. you litterally need to soak it in oven cleaner. Also do it in a buck you will throw away!

phew, so I wasn't going blind.

AGR -> 045 131 501 L
AQM -> 038 131 501
AQM -> 038 151 501 AG
AHF, ALH, ASV -> 045 131 501 L
ARL, ASZ -> 038 131 501 T
AXR -> 038 131 501 AN ----> on ebay

unable to work out engine power against them though

Hmm, you're right, I'm not seeing an ASV either. That's specifically the one I was looking at, as it claims to be new so I wouldn't have any cocking around cleaning it before I start hacksawing! There's a couple of others though, one which says it's from an ASZ engine (which is the PD130?) which should be fine. I think the 130/150 are a slightly different size to the lower power engines as they seem to have different part numbers for the EGR racepipes from Allards.

110bhp non-pd engine is 51mm diameter.

130/150 pd engine is 57mm diameter

I put the blanking plate straight on to the exhaust manifold. I tried putting it on the flexi pipe but it eventually starts to break and leak exhaust around the flexi join.

cleaned mine over a weekend with carb cleaner and thinners or white spirits through an airline and a toothbrush , was gleaming when put back in , wouldnt mind getting someone to do my mannifold now tho, , , have also just bought me a race pipe

waiting for car to run better before fitting this and hoses mind

that's a shame that andy as would have asked about acquiring your old egr....

you've had some bad luck with that car fella, but sounds like you getting back on track.
well done sticking it out.

If you're buying a second hand EGR, make sure the ASV plunger assembly is on the correct side, there are different variants fitted to different VAG models.

The one on my Passat PD130 for example is different to other PD130s.

I managed to buy two second hand EGRs for £15 :) Just needed to ask around on the right forums, and said I just wanted them dead or alive to hack apart "to see how they worked".

Anyway, one of them has now been converted to a stealth pipe, just need to find time to fit it one day !!

cheers for heads up muddy

it is sat in a pool of white spirit at the moment and a check earlier look like it was doing a good cleaning job, after i gave it a power jet hosing down
will get some oven cleaner for friday eve to soak for couple of nights and refit sunday with a view to it working!!!

Gavin have you actually looked in there to see how blocked it is. Just had a quick look in mine and it was nice and clear.

(Great but I still get limp mode! Ticking off possibilities though)

Mines done 112k so I was expecting filth. Presumably it's been cleaned at some point - it may even have a blanking plate.

I just took off one end of the 90 degree pipe and shone a torch down it/stuck my finger in - there was just a little oily residue.

It was quite hard to see all the way down but the easy to see bits were so clean that I was satisfied...

i wish i had checked mine much earlier, goodness if being clogged up for however long is good or bad to the over health of the car
i posted pics on another thread, labours over 3k, if you want to see proper clogged.
