quick update
been soaking in white spirit for 3or4 days now -> blimey that has cleaned it up a treat
pics here:
http://www.photobox.co.uk/album/189547111

used mr muscle a couple of times, left on for about 15-20mins each to see wht would do, and that has made it almost new. cover in more and leaving to soak overnight now and re-attach tomorrow :)

The plate has been removed as wasn't attached to the arm...
the reason that the thing didn't work as well i believe is on the side the, rocker that moves the rubber arm had gone round too far and got stuck so wasn't helping.
not sure how to explain but look at pic to see what i mean.

will update tomorrow with finished result and hopefully good news :):)

re-attachment is an arse.
dropped both the allen bolts and can't get at sump tray to remove to get them back.
no room to to re-screw either - very small lady like hands are best and easiest to do this.

off to get a sprocket set that will hold torx to get tray off and have another g.
good job nice and sunny out.

if you ant this to be easier -> get race pipe. reason: more space to attach blanking plate and easier to re-screw pipe on. be about a 20min job i reckon. time and ease, never a bad thing...

[edit]
have re-attached and a complete pain is was too.
lost one of the 5mm allen bolts at least a dozen times.

will attach pipe tomorrow and start her up :)

ronald

chees Ronald, but unable to do this on the pd150 engine from what i have read, but you can turn off when have a re-map.

All, absolutely chuffed with result.
This morning on the drive in to work, she feels like a new car.
needle goes round to 4k easily and smoothly. nealy hit 100 in 4th before i knew it, fantastic excellent outcome really chuffed.
don't delay do it today :):):):):):)

so responsive, and fluid.
feels like a new car, adn now i know i'm drive something and not pushing/willing it to move.

no asv, so will still look at doing the wingnut jobbie, but so impressed so far.

thanks for support guys in guides on how to do and best way forward.
will get fuel filter done at service next week and sdtart to use millers dsp4 to see if helps keep her cleaner.

no blanking, just removed | cleaned | reattached

i can see what your saying, but surely it would do no harm in cleaning other engine components it goes through? or is it designed just to clean the soot away from egr?

How can you tell if edc15 or 16? in vag-com? and can you change teh setting in shareware version.
sorry more questions.

yep, still want to wingnut method as will an asv.
shutdown is fine the few times i have done it mind, no excess juddering or owt.

cheers gavin,
will do the dsp4, and appreciate that if blocked yeah it wouldn't do anything.

need to have a look as the eml came on after i'd driven about 30miles to work, still drives great and can't stop smiling.
really does feel like a new car.

cheers gavin that would be appreciated.

though asv 130 had the asv plate missing? well the pick on ebay didn;t have one

had eml come on yesterday with a very weird code.
google seems tofind loads of reference but no exaplaination, but i think it is as now learning, as i, a new driving style.
never hit 4k before now and can is 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th so quickly smoothly and easily.
no idea what a re-map feels like, ut if anything like this, i'll start saving now

What error code are you getting ?

gavin - will do and thaks again. will enjoy in nice mode for a while and save some dosh.

muddy:
18263 - Powertrain Data Bus: Software Version Monitoring
P1855 - 35-00 - -
a google finds a few threads but none to explain. Found one in Ibiza Mk4 thread and ian cupra said was sorted by stealers and throttle related.
I put this down to re-learning what the engine and the fact what my right foot can now do to it - if that makes sense!?!

I also have a second which was:
19586 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs
P3130 - 35-10 - Please Register/Activate - Intermittent
Which i think is safe to ignore...

will need some mony to get full version, and convincing of the gf...

That first error is indeed wierd, never seen it before...I've posted in the VCDS support forum to see if they have any ideas, as I'm intrigued...
EDIT: What cable & version of VCDS did you use to read the codes ?

Second one is an EGR error.
What did you actually do to your EGR, just clean it, or did you blank off the exhaust connection too ? If you blanked off the exhaust connection, that'll be the cause - as later ECUs (I think 2004- funnily enough) were clever enough to work out if the EGR has been blanked. Not 100% sure how they do this, but I think they sense that more fresh air is being sucked past the MAF than would be expected when the EGR should be active (as normally with an operating EGR, it'll suck some exhast gas and some fresh air). Workaround is either to drill a small hole in the blanking plate to allow just a small amount of exhaust gas through - or get a remap and get the EGR facility mapped out altogether...

cheers for looking at those muddy.

All i did was:
remove | clean | attach.
NO blanking involved at all.
REMOVED the ASV as not attached to the arm anyway after being so stuck solid for so long.

cable should be all ok, as been using for a good 6-9months now and never had that before.
is a serial plugged into usb converter, same laptop & same port as before.
cleared other codes all ok.
was pointed towards the seller on ebay from another thread, can't recall at mo and using againt VCDS409.1 or is it .11, can't recall. the old one from ross-tech

would love the remap to get rid completley and then the wingnut method would be more beneficial.

How did you remove the ASV - have you completely removed the butterfly/flap from inside the assembly ?

Is the ASV spindle still in place ?

Only other thoughts that spring to mind:
1) The EGR isn't operating - because either the vacuum pipe is not connected, is blocked, leaking, or mixed up with the ASV vac pipe.
2) The EGR isn't operating - because the operating mechanism is damaged or jammed, maybe the cleaning process or some chemicals damaged it, and it no longer opens when vacuum is applied ?

yep spindle still in place, see pics.
as said only thing removed was the asv plate as wasn't attached to anything.

everything is put back connection wise as was before.
bolts are most definately tight so no air leak
pipe is attached and clipped in place with the spring clips etc

have cleared error, but is noted and will see hwo she goes, though do have a drive to gatwick tonight and then back again next week which is a nice 300+miles at a guess.
will mention to garage at service and see what they say, and see if it happens again.

it was that sooted up and now free, white spirit & mr muscle, that could be learning or working loose.

suppose no real way to know if it is working or not?

did that this morning gavin, but no idea it was actually 'doing' anything.
thought it was just a not of settings in place more than anything.

will have to investigate the full version purchase, and will get newest at same time as i'm weird like that!

i'm happy to go ross-tech all way, but cheaper to get lic key from them for my working version, which is probably what will happen.

as long as no error tonight & next week back from gatwick i'll be happy :)

another eml warning on way home -
egr regulation not as expected or something - vague i know but cleared and will see how it goes

maf actual and specified were well outside the range on measuring block 03 under engine 01
should these stay in the range?
is it bad if they deviate outside by a little or a lot?
