Engine burning smell

is it normal to get a faint burning smell from having a new turbo and manifold put on? I get the smell every now and then...

reason I ask is I have just had my K03 hyrbrid fitted, and upon a few miles, I popped the bonnet, and a tiny whiff of smoke came from the turbo....which I understand is normal, as I know CR Turbos coat the inside with an oil (well they did with my GT2X) and wondering if it will smell a little different while the turbo and mani become choked up?

had a thorough look round the engine bay and everything seems fine and normal, and nothing else that is or could burn (no loose pipes, wires, cables etc)

Tony, there will be sealants between the gaskets and protection waxes or sealants on the outside of most of the new bits, these will burn off.
You've had your install done by an expert, you've paid for this to get done and I'm very sure if there are any problems these will be sorted out by said expert ASAP

there is an amount of oily paw prints all over it as well as what was coated on the manifold/turbo as supplied. most of this should have burnt off.

there were no leaks between road tests when I was mapping it, and it went on the ramp several times to look see. all way dry. Aside from the coolant pipe up front which split on initial 1st start and warm up, there have been no leaks. keep an eye on the ground for a spot. I could see none, but yours dripped oil on my nice clean floor when it arrived from the leaking oil drain pipe (stripped threads on it). It left oil & water tight. :)

keep an eye on it look for drips (not aircon water drips) and keep your eye on fluid levels.. and let me know.

thanks Bill:D

could not see anything obvious, so will check the spot underneath the car in the morning when I move it

I suspect it is oil residue as you have pointed out, along with the new mani and turbo "choking" up. Everything seems tight though at the minute:)
