hi guys didnt know where to post this so decided this one.lol

has anyone tryed to clean there engine and if so how.

over the winter driving down country lanes to and from work my engine bay looks a mess.
ive heard people getting them jet washed but wudnt that affect ur electrics and possibly make pipes loose.

is there a cleaning solution that cuts through oil and mud and other stuff

I always use Auto Glym engine degreaser spray it on let it soak and jet wash off from a distance but as you haven't done it before I would spray on and use a brush to get in difficult areas then rinse off with with a sponge and soapy water. Then dry off with a cloth. For hoses and plastics use silicon spray but keep away from air intake as too much can damage the maf. Then finally spray electrical connectors with wd40. Hope this helps mate

i'm looking to clean my bay in the next week or so, any answers would be a help to me too. I dont have a pressure washer or anything, also don't have a lot of funds so willing to put elbow grease in to clean it.

sweet cheers for that bud.

when u say spray from a distant how far away. and wud it be better for the first time to use a hose pipe and my finger over the end.

also what about the battery getting wet

Yeah you can do that mate just gently rinse off should come up a treat. I've never had any probs with getting the battery wet.

i know its a bit different but u got any tips for the car exterior n interior .

my brother got a wash n wax and when id washed it i tried to shammy it and it hasnt seemed to work. i spent all afternoon trying to clean it. that was last week

i then washed it again today with a just wash and the same has happened because of the wax from last time

it seems to shine but when u look at it it has white dots on it about tennis ball size

Not sure what you done there mate. I use snow foam now much easier. But just get a decent shampoo wet the car first then wash top to bottom so roof first then sides down. I use to use a second sponge to wash below the bump strips and front and rear bumpers. I never use chamois always dry with microfibre clothes. Then wash the wheels after. Interior Hoover first then use a cockpit cleaner and wipe over with a dry cloth. Also use a specific sponge just for the wheels.

can u get glym and snow foam from most car shops. as i will have to treat my self to some

i will try n post a pic tomorra as to what i mean about the shinning swirls. it cud be the paint work as when i had a close look at it, it looks like it has flakes in it.

thanks for the advise

I got mine from the Monza site It's def worth getting. If the paint is rough mate might need clay barring look it up on line takes all the contaminants out of the paint.

this is what i mean about the white dots but from far away u cant see them.

Also when washing the engine I would advise having it running when useing the jet wash or hose and leve it running for a whole after. I have seen so so Meny cars that won't start or electrical problems after washing there engines

i know it does but how. lol

i used to go to the car wash once a blue moon but i have decided to start doing it myself

i thought washin a car was easy. lol

If it was an automatic car cash - this is probably what made the paint so bad in the first place.

Theres loads of information out there mate - sites/forums dedicated telling how you how to detail a car - it isnt as easy and straight forward as you probably think.

I would start off with a clay bar session, then get yourself a proper washmitt and some decent shampoo (ive always used autoglym - others will say this is better and that is better, but at the end of the day its what works for you and what you are happy with. Then get a microfibre drying towel and cloths for polishing.

Then either wax or polish of your choice - again ive always used either auto glym super resin or deep shine. Try not to leave it on too long after its dried, and buff it properly.

You will need to spend some money to get good results. Sponge and wash and wax just wont do it.

they may b no good for ur paint but the pics u see is what happened when i washed my car.

the carwash doesnt leave marks like that.

this is y im asking how to wash a car i thought it was easy

i've just taken a few photos of my dirty bay. Rather embarrassed about it really. I think it needs a good clean
