Engine upgrade

I'm looking about an engine upgrade for my ibiza, maybe a new engine/transaxle setup that is like plug&play if this is possible. I searched on the board and found most common choices are 1.8 turbo (about 180hp I think) and 2.0 (150hp I think) anyway they're both impossible to find here in Italy. So I'm thinking about the Golf GTI even if I've no idea what engine they had and if they're direct fit. Any more suggestion?
I'm looking for rear brake upgrade too so if there is a donor car that can do that too it would be perfect

plus I just found a mk3 golf engine 2800 VR6 but I don't think is best for daily driver setup but it would be interesting to know if it is direct fitment in my engine bay

Which engine do you have at the moment? Golf gti 2.0 16v and gearbox should work if you have a 1.4.

Any Golf 93-98 engine will pop in minimal fuss or a 98-04 1.8T 150 will fit too

oh sorry forgot to say, I've a 1400.
ok I've found a list of all the engine that were on Golf and I'll see what I can find locally, maybe the 1600 AEK or AFT/AKS or the 2.0 16v ABF.
Anyone know if they did a AWD version of the Golf?

Think the 98-04 V6 came with AWD but fitting it to a factory two wheel drive car isn't going to be easy.

uhm I searched and found info about a 2900 4wd 190hp mk3 version of the golf that I think has the same transaxle of the mk2 golf country and of the mk2 syncro

Ahh right we didnt get the MK3 in 4wd, MK2 Syncro's are rare as rocking horse poo, but my mum had one!

a friend suggested me the 1400 100hp, I didn't even know that there was a 1400 with 100hp. Anyone have more info on this engine?

It's a 16v engine fitted to the VW Polo mk4 (95-99) and mk5 (00-02). They also fitted a 1.6 125bhp engine to the mk5.

Thanks for answer, but was it stock on any mk2 or mk3 ibiza? because I searched and can't find any ibiza with that engine here in Italy

Was stock on european Ibiza's model was a 1.4 sport. We didn't get that one here in the UK

and it seems it wasn't sold in Italy too, anyway I've found a lot of Polo mk4 with that engine so I can think about a swap with an engine/transaxle from a Polo that I think should be plug&play plus obviously other parts like axles, ecu, wires, ecc
