Oh hell, the facelift is gonna come out just before I want to buy a year old leon. This puts me in a very difficult position

Im in the same boat. Want to buy a leon sometime within the next year.

But the good thing is it'll push residuals down, so if they make a hash of it, then we get a nice looking leon for a better price.

If however it's as good as its beginning to sound from piecing together the things posted in this thread, then we have a very hard decision to make!

ye will have to wait for the mk2 facelift to be like 6 months old before we could get bargains, but that wouldnt be till end of 2009.

Need to buy something in the meantime that wont loose money me thinks!

The only stuff that seems to be holding value is the very low end of the market. My brother got a 2000 reg Fiesta yesterday for £650, and I'd imagine he'll be able to get £500 for it this time next year!

Thankfully I'm not in a hurry for a new car yet, and hope the beeza wont loose too much within the next year. As long as it doesnt creep past 100,000 miles!

its going to look exactly the same as the old one, believe me.

cloth/trim change, the odd button, possibly wheels, and under the bonnet changes depending on the model you choose.

dont build your hopes up for anything remotely 'radical'. its not going to happen.

its the interior change that would bug me!

Although if I got a pre-facelift I would quickly sort out that slab of silvery grey!

the plastics will be the same shape, but maybe different colours.

tooling is price prohibitive for a facelift, however you still have to buy plastic to inject to make parts. the colour of the plastic (or cloth or carpet) doesnt affect price.
a replacement tool (a dashboard tool for example) would cost upwards of £200k, and is money down the plug as it can never be recouped.

buy an mfd3, it make a massive difference (although quite expensive).

I can second what Chris says about retooling costs, I used to do some work for a major manufacturer and got a tour of one of their plant in Germany. The presses for body panel etc were phenominally expensive.

Does anyone actually like the gear knob? I prefer the seat sport one seen in the Linea R by far & wide. It looks not only more tasteful but ergonomic looking too.

Yes, I do! :) Everyone goes on about how shite it is, butI find it fine - I have quite big hands so I think that helps! :)

Leon Mk3?? Anyone?

I went in to my local VW dealer the other day and really like the mk6 golf, Now they said that the GTi version won't be about until June.

Does anyone know of any rumors of SEAT updating the Leon??

Just wondering as I don't fancy trying to find the extra for the golf :D Although it does look nice!!

face lift around the corner, i'd expect that to last for another 3-4 years.
maybe another face lift before the 'new' leon arrives, so they can load them up with goodies to get shot of all the stock.

just out of interest when's this years facelift most likely to surface, month wise?
Wonder when they'll release pics or details about it as well..?

wish they'd hurry up already!!

they'd better offer sports friggin pedals this time as well!!

From the spy pics I have seen, the facelift makes the car look a right minger...

Makes it look like the new Ibiza...and lets face it, - it's no looker...Yuk !

i'm sure its been asked but is there any idea as to when the facelift model will be released to buy? I can get out the company car scheme in september and was hoping to pick up a 6 month old or pre reg fr tdi!

Word is the facelift Leon should be at the Geneva motor show in early March......

cheers, i can surely wait another month to decide what i'm doing!

I really hope it's not like the new Ibiza & they just give it minor tweaks concentrating more on the sh*te interior!
