Quick questions for you hardened dealership users
today my MY03 failed MOT before the warranty was up, the offending exhuast is being changed on monday under warranty, and ive given the green to changing the p/s fluid and brake fluids too.

But i have been quoted 192 for the rear discs replaced? They are an advisory atm, but is not also covered warranty wise as the car is meant to be covered for 3 years? Subsequently where is the cheapest place to locate discs, and am i right in that if you change discs you have to change pads as well?

try discounts forum, euro car parts or similar

as for changing pads/discs at the same time, some do some dont

Slightly off topic, whats the score with advisories? If theyre not done by the next MOT the car will fail?

Discs and pads are consumables such as tyres,clutches,wiper blades your lucky they changed the exhaust there classed as a consumable too.

they are just that, advisories

yeah they are just saying it would be sensible to get these done to keep the car tip top but they arent bad enough to fail the MOT on yet. We will review next MOT time.

well yeah your right in so far as its just a warning it may be a fail item next time, but if its something like tyres chances are they wont last through for another year. Just have to use a bit of car knowledge as to how long things last and how long you can put them off for. I had 3 advisories, 2 of which i will be getting done on monday when the back box is changed.

I didnt get the advisory sheet, seller tucked me up saying it passed the MOT no problem. Only noticed the advisorys when I got all the documents and had a good read of them.

Mine, I dunno the shady didnt give me the sheet. Ive got a fair idea after giving the car the once over. Nothing that wont be resolved by the time the MOT is due in decemeber. MOT is getting harder to fiddle all the time.

Then do what I do and swap cars every three years and don't have to worry about MOT's

I got the same advisory for 3 years with the MOTs on my old Volvo 440 - said that i was advised to change the rear suspension simply cos the covers were a little rutsy at the base. Got a little more rusty each year but p/ex the 16 yr old car to a dealer when i got my Ibiza. Car passed each year tho - ho hum
