Hello,

Aside from the navigation map update that I just installed (ECE 2021) is there any other update that can be done on MIB 2?

Thanks

Hmm do you have the mib2 firmware 515, suspect so, if it's a number a few digits below (512 say) then you can upgrade to 515. Never done it myself since I have a high unit. That is said to fix Android Auto errors and is recommended for that. Sold for £20 by retrofitters up in Yorkshire via a link, they provide good notes. Think you may find it on those libraries referenced on the software thread although I haven't looked. It works similar to the mib2 high map update, keep the engine running to power up the infotainment unit without a break

Obdeleven tells you by module whether you have the latest software in the modules based on what it's seeing across users. That can be useful in keeping a tab on releases. I pass on how easy or not DIY activities in reprogramming units other than the infotainment unit. Feels a bit dangerous to me - had my original dealer do it when the motorised tailgate was shipped with a faulty control unit. The small incremental infotainment firmware releases is more straightforward for DIY activity but not always straightforward for those that are on very early releases, there are chain sequences you have to follow and you can't generally go backward. 512 -> 515 is fine.

Thread here on the infotainment firmware with people that have done it:

Here's what I have. Is this upgrade going to void my warranty? I still got 2 good years on it.

I'd only upgrade the firmware from 512 to 515 if you have a problem with Android Auto, failing that, no point. That's what it's suppose to sort out.

You could be on a sticky wicket with the dealer if it wrecked your infotainment unit and you asked them to sort it out. If it went without an issue you would be fine. Retrofitters sort out units after people mess them up with DIY activity.

What sort of problems did people have with android auto on 512?

I have 2 problems that show up rarely. 1 screen glitch, where all colors are inverted and hazy. 2 sometimes the system just restarts itself. But again these are rare problems

Probably those. Probably fine to do it. You just have to keep the engine running till it completes else corruption may occur.

You will find talk of the 512 to 515 upgrade on the firmware thread. I don't think they actually said what the issue was but were told to do it by one of the people who puts work in the direction of retrofitters but in this case they just supplied the software for DIY activity. They were happy it fixed their problem.

The mib2 standard I have access to isn't my car, I would get an earful if I messed the firmware up so haven't tried. Don't use Android on it so not a pressing need. Once the display moved on the screen by a few mm and a long press on/off reboot fixed that. Other than that no issues.

So the verdict is:

So far the system didn't restart by itself as it rarely did before. Maybe it's still too early.

I feel that the sound is slightly louder now with Android auto, it was much lower than with Bluetooth.

In terms of looks, its identical to whatever it was.

There's an error message that showed up once, during the installation, it never showed up again. It is clearly written in the installation instructions that u need obdeleven to remove the record of that error. I dont have obdeleven so probably the error message is still registered somewhere in the log. Anyways as I said it never showed up again.

So to sum up, its not revolutionary, do it if u can but follow the instructions well.

Cheers

Seat rolled out a new look screens circa 2018 on 2019 models which are across the standard and high unit. The mood lighting colour also got put on the screen display as well so if you have blue, they put blue rings around the visuals on the display. Change to red, it turns red. Those that don't have mood lighting but a fixed colour get that colour on the graphics. I noticed that when I got my 2016 firmware updated to 2019 when I got the navigation FeCs altered. They also put the heating graphics on the screen in that firmware and the heated windscreen. Clever that the infotainment system patches into the systems installed into the car so you get better control with a firmware update.

The same screen designs are common to the standard and high mib2. The navigation next turn screens on roundabouts are cruder on the standard to the high. Doesn't tell you the exit until you are on the roundabout in some instances in the next turn graphics although it's on the map (it indicates that you should take the first left, but what it means is you are on the roundabout, then changes whilst on it to where you should get off, all a bit late). Less polished but other than that, the look and feel is the same apart from the lag as far as navigation is concerned and round about next turn "cards".

Ah that'd be great for people before 2019, mine is actually 2019, so I had already all that. Then I guess it's much more interesting to do the update for older cars.

Ok Here is one annoying thing I noticed after the update. All radio logos are gone!

You have to tune in and do the long press, if they are transmitted they get stored otherwise it's the VAG site and failing that the useful web site

But you probably knew that. On older firmware they were preloaded although I think your previous firmware wasn't old enough for that. Face lifted mib3 units if they can't be brought into the memory over air then you can't import them like mib2, that menu isn't provided atleast on the current release.
