I think remap to remap a petrol will always see a diesel go past it
130 to 1.8t i mean
Each to there own matey

rocking a 1.9tdi pd100 and I got and average of 50.4mpg over 520 miles of mixed driving
All depends what you want....
A remap on a diesel will be quicker than a remap on a 1.8t.... torque is what you want people![]()
don't mind the noise
hi new to forum..... as title what mpg will the tdi achieve drivin short distance in traffic i drive max of 6 miles there and 6 bak engine cold before each trip. insurance is 1000 for fr130 tdi and 1700 for fr 1.8t from what i can work out the 1.8 would be better but what mpg do people get in these driving sensibly...out of the turbo??? any help is much appriceated, thank you
Chino has a point, I'm in a pd160 and looking at going stage 1 but stage 2 isn't even on the horizon as I don't have a spare 700 - 900 for an uprated clutch to get the car moving lol - let alone the injectors, turbo uprated cooler, uprated pipes and whatever else you break along the way.
That being said, diesel is great fun, but then I am bias as i like torque over top end speed.
Mpg, tax and insurance were what persuaded me in the end.
You seriously drive 3 miles each way? Get a bloody bike you lazy sod![]()
I have decided anyway now its the fr tdi I will be going for ...cant wait
Bit young to be looking at 1.8 Turbo's, a 100bhp fabia is too quick![]()
My daily drive to work is 6.2 miles and then back.
My 2008 1.9 tdi FR has covered 19,500 doing that journey for 5.5 years without any fault or turbo failure. Ave mpg is 44 in winter and 53 summer.
Love the mid range punch of the tdi and low insurance. Only thing I miss is the warm up time in the colder months as the temp gauge has barely moved time I turn off.

I'm not bothering on reading this thread just from seeing this I'd say steer well clear! Injectors and dpf failure are also rife amongst diesels doing silly journeys! At this time of year takes a good 10/15 miles before mines even at operating temperature and you will have more hastle than you want with that 12 mile commute! I'd stick with petrol! To be honest, I stuck with petrol until my 80 mile commute turned to 180 miles, that's when you need a diesel![]()
the mk4's don't have a dpf so that would never have been a problem, and the injectors are completely fine, I know many people with the 1.9tdi who have never had problems on short journeys. a little blast to clear the pipes is all that is needed every so often.
totally agree with your point about not needing a diesel until you do a lot of miles, but 80 miles commute a week would make me choose a diesel over petrol
My injectors comment was based solely on several a3 owners who have suffered due to short journeys, plus from what I see of all the poor diesels local to me who pootle around town puffing black smoke out at every gear change...as for dpf I was informed by revo and shark when I enquired about mapping that mine was fitted with a dpf(?) ...
The 80 mile commute I was enjoying In a 20mpg jag and 24 mpg FTO lol, now the 180 miles a day sucks as I vowed I'd never go diseasal lol but the FR has been a gem and made for all those motorway miles![]()
