I have a 2014 Leon 1.6 Diesel estate SE technology.
When looking for a fuel filter, despite entering the reg number both Halfords and Euro car parts list two different types as follows
Without Connection for Water Sensor-Without Water Trap
With Connection for Water Sensor-With Water Trap
Is there an obvious way to tell which one I need by just looking at the housing?
Thanks for any help

The housing may have a water drain on the bottom if it has a water trap, simple solution, get both, return the one you don’t use and keep the end of the box with the part number for the next time.

If it's any help to anyone with the same model, it turned out to be the one without water sensor

Bit late to the party! but for anyone else looking at fuel filters they are the same for either 1.6 or 2.0 Diesel only difference is with or without water trap.
I 'suspect' it's down to which market the car's sold in - if a market with crap fuel they would specify filter housing with water trap.

PR: 1A8 with water trap = 5Q0127177C filter element with gasket
PR: 0F5 without water trap = 5Q0127177 filter element with gasket

You can physically see/feel a water trap (15 in diagram below) if you do have one in the bottom of the filter housing.
Without is just a flat/smooth bottom.

Edit;
searching for the PR codes I find this
PRCode: 0F5 = Fuel system for diesel engine
PRCode: 1A8 = Fuel system for DISI engine (tropicalised)
So yes - I do think it's down to the market the car is sold in.
