good idea to disconnect the battery when you do it.

youll lose a little bit of fuel that is from the pump to the pipe, maybe an old rag underneath is enough.

best done outdoors for ventilation and make sure any smokers know you are working on it and know not to smoke, important because without eyebrows you wont be able to show your annoyance with them as well.

lol^^^ too true!

why d/c the bat though? stop sparks?

thats pretty much it, i admit there is little chance of it where the filter is, but for the time it takes it makes sure. petrol vapour is nasty stuff

In fact id disconnect the battery for any work with fuel lines, filter, pump etc.

I used to get all my filters from vagparts.co.uk but they've gone bust now. They used to sell genuine vw filters at good prices.

A lot of people use GSF car parts or Euro car parts.

I'm not keen on using pattern parts so i'll probably get mine from the dealers next time.

Can't remember how much I paid last time but it should be around a fiver.

Do the job in the daytime so you dont have to use anything electrical to light up what your doing.

This may be a load of nonsense, but on the golf you had two clips for each of the fuel lines going in and out of the filter to loosen. And the filter itself was secured in a plastic casing which had two bolts either side to unscrew.

When fitting you have to have the arrow on the fuel filter facing the front of the car.

I'm pretty sure the fuel line will have 2 clamp bits on each end where the filter sits between. You need to push these in and then they pop out. At least thats what it was like on all cars I have worked on.

As for doing it with an empty tank that actually made me laugh out loud. Imagine you were gonna get your car serviced and they tell you to remeber to bring it there empty haha...

As myki said there will be barely any spill. What I usually do it pull it off, put my finger on it and quickly pushing the filter on. Very easy mate really
