Do you know anyone with VAG-COM, might be worth getting your car hooked up to it too see if its not agreeing with something.
I had the epc light on mine at 1 point, the sensors that’s on the clutch peddle had come out causing that light to come on but not all the time.
Have a look under there is a white switch attached with a purple plug should go into the hole above the clutch peddle, when the clutch is realised the switch thing should be fully pressed in.
Hope this makes sense might not be this but just somet you can try

some people are buying them off ebay.......some seem to work and some dont, which ones do or dont is beyond me but id like to find out. Obviously the ross-tech one is going to be the best but will set you back about £100. I know some people have had problems with the usb type leads so the parrallel port one might be the best bet.
Serial port....
I have borrowed a Serial port one from a friend of a friend. Works a treat. I have to use this one as i have a laptop with Win95 which doesn't support USB.
looking into vag-com myself..trying to work out what interface i need..let u know if i find anything out
