Hello all,

Got a green panel filter today for my LCR.

Loosened the airbox lid, took out old filter, put in green panel filter - all good. However the flippin airbox cover won't go on right! [:@]

It goes on fine with the original filter, but with the panel filter in there it won't quite snap into place. Is there a trick I'm missing?

Don't want to take the car out until I get this sorted.

I had a bit of grief with this too... I just found that it went on again after about 30 minutes of wrestling with it. And believe me, the 30 minutes was full of swearing (and a fair bit of panic)!

Also make sure none of the filter is obstructing the lid, and that the rubber edge is well fitted into the airbox all round.

At the end of the day though, perseverence seems to be key!

It does go in, make sure you get the bottom end lugs in 1st before you tighten down the 2 screws otherwise it's a bitch to get in.

Had the same problem. Found it went on easiest if you push the 2 lugs in towards the centre of the car first. Then work on the 2 towards the edge of the car. Easiest if you get someone to help; one pushes down and the other pulls the airbox up until it all clips into place.
Also use copious amounts of swearing to help it along :)

:p

Yeah mate, notice a big difference in sound, can hear the turbo whistle more and get a bigger whoosh noise from the DV now as well.

Throttle response has improved too.

I must say I noticed a louder noise from the turbo after changing air filter and DV on a standard car.

Just fitted my green panel filter to and 2mins tops you have to make sure the rubber edge on the filter is pushed down into the resess on the box before replacing the lid. Sound awesome with std DV so god knows when i get my forge one its quite but with no radio you can her the beast sucking and spooling. Also just fitted my new front smaller plate custom made at fancyplates makes the front look awhole lot meaner cheers guys.

Cool mate, I think it's just luck whether or not the airbox lid goes back on easily or not! I made sure the filter was seated correctly from the start but still had to put a lot of effort in to get the lid back on!

It took me longer to get the lid off than back on! the filter fit in nice and snug (after shifting moths, wasps and the rest), along with lots of profanity!

My oil burner is now a hell of a lot more responsive. Feels less sluggish low in the rev range, even when its cold! top purchase!

Does anyone know how much difference the panel would make to a non-turbo model? Mine's the 1.8 20v, I'm more interested in the sound it would make than the performance gains (I wouldn't be able to keep up with you turbo boys anyway!!)

Even on a turbo model you'll only get 1bhp or thereabouts if you're lucky. No air filter, be it panel, induction or CAI, is going to give you a massive power boost.

But it will help the car breathe easier, will improve throttle response, help with pick up and might release an extra bhp or two, if you're lucky.

It's a worthwhile mod, worth every penny IMO, just don't expect to see your car turn into a savage beast after fitting ;)
