Grinding noise

Had the Leon for over a year now. Has an intermittent grinding noise when I unlock it and get it in. Doesn’t happen everyday but can happen I few times in a row and then maybe a few weeks later. Seems to be near the centre of the car. Anyone have any ideas to what it could be?

Hey, I believe the noise you are referring to is the steering wheel locking mechanism activating and deactivating.

I could be wrong but does the steering wheel lock only come off when the start button is pressed?

Could also be the actuator that controls the air flow between the different vents.

Na, it’s not the heaters.

The lock on mine comes off when getting in the car with the key. If the column has locked in 'tension' then when it unlocks the steering wheel jumps round slightly when the column unlocks otherwise I get no noise from the column on getting in the car.

Nothing happens in mine until the start button is pressed then I can hear the actuators moving.
