HID's has been covered on this forum more times than I've had hot meals!

Allegedly H7R bulbs are less likely to dazzle other drivers and 6K is more like OEM.
Allegedly the higher the colour tempreture the less light you get on the road and the blue-er it will look.
Have a look on this site - HID's Direct. Allegedly there are also billions of sellers on eBay.

Here is a rough guide on colour...

Allegedly some people also buy some quad LED 501's or else your sidelights will look yellow!
There are millions of sellers, quad LED's are bright enough in my opinion, from what I've seen.

Search the forum for more info as it has been covered with the same questions twice a week for the past 6 months.

I`ve thought about it but I`m staying away from it because of the legal issues. Unless someone asks directly which kit is best or whatever (like above).

LOL, exactly mate!

If someone asks, then I will advise but I never just suggest it out of the blue.

I would`nt want to "push" something illegal on someone unsuspecting no matter how trivial.

No, you dont need the shorter bulb. I have just installed a H7R kit in mine without any problems (check the 'clicky' Neo posted above). I can vouch for Neo's idea of putting the ballast inside the light unit itself, so much easier and tidier too :)

Yes, as mick says you don`t need the short bulbs - these are 40mm in length instead of 45mm but no-one I know of has had trouble fitting the longer ones.

H7R bulbs are designed for use in reflector headlights (which you will have) to reduce glare to other road users - they are based on the D2R bulbs used in cars which have hids with reflectors as standard like the Renault Laguna. They have a section of the bulb blacked out at the bottom to control the beam.

For the highest light output 4300k is best, then 5000k, then 6 and so on.. as the kid said (allegedly).

Kits with slim ballasts are easier to mount - Here`s that link again
And they should be more reliable than the "older" box type ballast.

I might suggest that if a kit were to be installed, that a H7R bulb was used as a "friends" H7's glare a bit...

If you put the H7 and the HID bulbs side by side - you will notice that the HID 45mm bulbs put the "ARC" area further in to the headlight than the filament on a H7 bulb - this will change bthe beam spread pattern.

The 40mm HID bulbs put the "ARC" area in about the same area as a standard H7 bulb and give better beam pattern similer to a standard H7 bulb.

Gavstr,

Just got these a few days ago off ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330379335700&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Received them the next day and fitted them in about ten minutes inside the headlight unit without any problem at all without having to drill any holes.

I opted for the 6000K as I was after more a ice white look...one of my friends has 8000K HID's and although they look very nice they are a little too blue for my taste.
I ordered the H7 bulbs, only to read a couple of hours later on the forum that most recommend H7R . Having had them fitted for a couple of days now though I have not been flashed by any oncoming traffic and I have inspected them from outside the car at night and they do not seem to glare at all so I am very pleased with them.

I highly recommend the HIDs personally even if they are 'illegal'. They look just like any OEM xenons so I can't see why you would have any problems. And I have yet to read a post on here yet where someone has had any problems with police because of HIDs?
I thought about having them for ages before finally taking the plunge but I now wish I'd done so sooner.

However, all H7R bulbs from anywhere I have seen other than hids4u - shorter or not have the blackout section in the wrong place so beam pattern is pants anyway.

Fair enough mate, glad you`re pleased with them.

Mine had a black bit round the bottom of the bulb and some white plastic thing running up the side?

Beam looks to be exactly the same as it was with the halogens in, from both inside and outside the car, and no-ones flashed me yet either!

Yeah they all have that part, sounds like you got some good bulbs with your kit (I`ve seen some nasty quality stuff that`s all).
I`d save the seller on your ebay so if you need a replacement...
