I`ve thought about it but I`m staying away from it because of the legal issues. Unless someone asks directly which kit is best or whatever (like above).
LOL, exactly mate!
If someone asks, then I will advise but I never just suggest it out of the blue.
I would`nt want to "push" something illegal on someone unsuspecting no matter how trivial.
From now on " Allegedly " is now my HID catch phrase!

No, you dont need the shorter bulb. I have just installed a H7R kit in mine without any problems (check the 'clicky' Neo posted above). I can vouch for Neo's idea of putting the ballast inside the light unit itself, so much easier and tidier too
Yes, as mick says you don`t need the short bulbs - these are 40mm in length instead of 45mm but no-one I know of has had trouble fitting the longer ones.
If you put the H7 and the HID bulbs side by side - you will notice that the HID 45mm bulbs put the "ARC" area further in to the headlight than the filament on a H7 bulb - this will change bthe beam spread pattern.
The 40mm HID bulbs put the "ARC" area in about the same area as a standard H7 bulb and give better beam pattern similer to a standard H7 bulb.
Gavstr,
Just got these a few days ago off ebay:

I highly recommend the HIDs personally even if they are 'illegal'. They look just like any OEM xenons so I can't see why you would have any problems. And I have yet to read a post on here yet where someone has had any problems with police because of HIDs?
I thought about having them for ages before finally taking the plunge but I now wish I'd done so sooner.
However, all H7R bulbs from anywhere I have seen other than hids4u - shorter or not have the blackout section in the wrong place so beam pattern is pants anyway.
Mine had a black bit round the bottom of the bulb and some white plastic thing running up the side?
Beam looks to be exactly the same as it was with the halogens in, from both inside and outside the car, and no-ones flashed me yet either!
