handbrake light stays on

hi, my handbrake warning light has just started to come on & stay on when driving. Anyone know why? It's the red one which has a circle with an! in it.

It's not my ABS light (I got that fed up of seeing that come on & off, I took the bulb out!). I read my SEAT handbook & it says it's because my brake fluid is low - checked this morning & it's fine. Is there a sensor on the handbrake itself? I know it stays on if you don't quite put the handbrake lever down enough, but I have.

The handbrake sensor is under the carpet, under the central console, but I think that it would be rather the brake fluid level sensor on the brake fluid tank cap which died...

so do we think it'll be ok to keep driving? just ignore the light? Is it worth getting my brake fluid changed (can't remember when it was)

well, it could be saying your brakes are dodgy... id just check them over if i were you

Just bear in mind in the unlikely event the chezzie police pull you over and see it they will make you re-test the car.

Same happened to mine too, and then decided to beep at me from time-to-time (mainly after I'd taken the hand/footbrake off). My brake fluid level looked fine, but when I poured some extra in, everything sorted it out for a while- no lights up on the dash, and no beeping.
Try sticking some dot4 in there.

That happened on my car few weeks ago, think i solved it by tightening the brake fluid reservoir cap, checking the wire to it was on properly.

I had a fiddle with the cap, topped the level up a bit - light's gone out now. Fkn cars.....
