headlight washers

Sorry if my question it a bit silly, but I've never seen headlight washers go "on" and am not sure if they work at all, so...

how can I see if they work, and when do they go "up"? Do I have to drive at a certain speed or what?

IIRC they come on every 3rd wash of the screen

Yeah, must have headlights on and every 3rd squirt - make sure to keep the winscreen washers on for a few seconds or they wont spray.

and will just catch on the covers!!!
