Heat Shield Rattle

Heya,

My car has a heat shield rattle at 2000 rpm and i've done a search but found nothing conclusive as to how to fix it. Do they run ok without the heatshields on? I had my car up on ramps today and it seems to have a shield for the cat and a shield for the front silencer, is it ok to just get rid of both of these?

Any other way of stopping the rattle?

if its on the cat find the one of the three offending bolts thats has snapped off and weld it back on

what everyone else usually does

if you rip em off its no biggie but leaves open to damage and burning long grass - for what it takes to fix it i left mine on

Could someone shed some more light on this (going home next weekend and I'd really like the rattle gone!)

Looking at the Haynes (1A.4) you can just see the heatshield that's between the cat and the car. On mine this is a tad loose, could that be causing the problem?

they are held up with a star type clipped pushed on a stud

been known to force a washer and nut over em before now temporarily
