Hi,

i know the coil packs are a common problem, i have had on go before and got the RAC to replace it.

When my coil back went before it was running horrible, and only 3 cylinders.
The problem i have now is missfiring at low revs, and only every so often, when it does misfire it feels like it did when the coil pack went, but before i had it misfiring all the time.

on vag com it say misfire cylinder 2.

do i just replace the coil pack for cylinder 2 at dinner? or could i be wasting my money and it be something else?

Maybe take it out and smell it for burning. It might be that it is not secured in properly and every now and then works it's way loose.

i was going to check the connection on a break at work, but i didnt actually know they could come loose.
So if its faulty they should smell of burning then? and are they mis coloured as well???

thanks for the reply

When was the last time spark plugs where done mate?
Usually when 1 pack goes the rest fallow so i would be tempted to change the plugs and replace the coil pack.
I always keep a spare coil pack in my boot just in case might be worth thinking about mate.

Mine smelt. I changed all of mine and the one that went was discoloured compared to the other one. If replacing them all it might be worth looking into the bolt down coil packs. I think the later coilpacks were revised to be more reliable than the olduns.

Well if all i have to do is push coil pack 2 back down, ill be amazed.. these cupras are mad for taking ur money.

The plugs were last done about 20k ago so i thought they should be fine. the last coil went about a year ago, had the RAC out who charged me about £40.. they did no:3 last time, and i asked if they could do no:4 whilst he was there as there the hard ones to get to, but he wouldnt, he was only allowed to replace the faulty part.

I dont have the cash to be replacing everything to be honest, i just want it to work right now..

But you would say its either coil pack not seated correctly, faulty coil pack or plug then thats causing the issue? like i say i was just worried as it was same symptoms as when the last coil pack went

Top men, this forum saves u a fortune, just wish i knew stuff about cars to help others out. some garages really do take the micky.. i got charged £30 + VAT for the computer yesterday, as my Laptop is broke at the min.. i remember when garages found the fault andf told u how much to fix it, not charge just to tell u what fault it is.

Mine was replaced a year before I bought car and went just after buying it. Only other thing I can think of is maybe clean the throttle body when you get the chance ( can't hurt and is cheap ). Know what you mean about garages. I bought a liquid gauge and it's ideal. Scans for codes and tells me them. Then i search on here. Have saved a fortune with this forum (which has then went on mods lol). Or maybe get the free version of vagcom for your laptop.

yes i have the free version!!!! SHOCK!!

anyway nioce one lads, so check seating of the connection, colour and smell of coil pack, if its not that then its the spark plug.. LOVELY!!! well could do without it but u know it could have been worse

just been out to the car... coil 2 looks just like coil 1.. no smell or discolour.. spark plug looks just like top of a spark plug hahahaha as i cant get this out whilst at work.

would u suggest that its the spark plug that needs doing?

any apps on the iphone that work like that andriod one?

Swap the coils over then if the misfire changes bank it will indicate coilpack. As for sparks I have not changed them myself so wouldn't know. Could you smell an eggy smell through vents whilst driving?

honestly sometimes i dont know how the hell i get through a day..

ill swap them round and then it will be obvious if the fault moves..

thanks pal, im blaming this cold i have

hey guys new 2 dis but need sum help.ive had engine management light cum up n car isnt performing da way it shud be fuel consumption also crap n hissing noise like air escaping evritin i pt my foot down.
ive changed coils, plugs, maf, lambda sensors bt stil got da problem.it cums on ecu diognostics as lambda bt did change n came bk week later.help please !!!!!!!

ive got boost gauges n if i had a boost leak da gauge would drop wen flooring it enit?n y wud it cum up on diagnostic as lambda

Mine didn't show up on gauges and come up with the lambda code. Mine was a vac leak at the pipes around and under the inlet manifold. It would come up on diagnostic for lambda as mine was overfuelling. due to the leak which also meant I had crap mpg.

did it drive ruf also?n less power?wot do u suguest i shud do 2 find our 4 sure?
