these petrol vs derv threads are great . the only reason people buy the derv is because they cant / dont want to afford the petrol . if you are young or skint the derv is the best option for fuel and insurance . i dont mind filling up every other day but if i had other things to pay for like a house or insurance i would of gone for the derv but there is no way the dervs are better than the petrol until they make them sound better and not smoke petrols will allways come out on top

lol, I own two petrol cars and one diesel. You are talking utter rubish.

You can order any car you like from the factory mate, I`ve just got mine (FR). i had a cupra before it but it had to go back cause they could not resolve a rattling noise. Go for the cupra if you want stopping power and power already there or save the cash and get the FR and remap it. There is not alot of difference in the driving experience although the cupra is stiffer and the brakes are much better. Ps I have been informed a new model is coming out i 18 months to 2 years.........GO FOR A WHITE ONE mmmmmmmm

so what is the reason you have the derv then ? caravan holidays .

No, because for everyday driving its quicker, effortless to drive and as proven on several car programmes, quieter at motorway speeds, lower reving at high speeds and far more economical.

I also have a clio 182 cup, which I'm sure is slower. And a 200bhp Saxo vts which is not, but the derv is quicker than both of them if your not thrashing the absolute arse off them, i.e. race track

Utter utter w4nk

I bought a diesel because when I test drove the Petrol FR I found it slow, and yes I know how to drive so don't gimme that ballsh!t, I know after remaps they are better, and a few other mods make it go like stink and sound great, if I had my choice again i'd get a Cupra but unsure on petrol or diesel at the moment...

so insurance and running cost didnt have nothing to do with it . think your the 1 talking w4nk dont no why peolpe with dervs kid themselves thinking there car is better than petrol.

Nope, not at all, it just put a smile on my face at the pumps that's all.

I didn't say it was better than petrol in general did I?!

I just I prefered the pd130 to the 1.8T, if I had been into modding and a petrol came across then I would have bought it!

If I had met rash before buying my diesel then I would have a Cupra 1.8T - simple, I could change mine now but I want a house so its a no no for a few years!

Got my eyes on a new Leon FR TFSI anyway so :p

This is down to personal preference anyway, depends what you do with your car... if you don't use it alot and love exhuasts/proper engine noises buy a petrol, if you do loads of miles buy a diesel, if have sex in it alot buy a mini van ;)

thats exactly what i said in the first post money is what makes people buy the derv if you have better things to spend your money on eg a house the derv is the best option, it costs me a fortune to run the petrol only getting 100 mile to 20 quid and i gave up going to work in it because of the cost .

Money isn't what made me buy it in the first place though, it was the driving style/power delivery etc

Anyway, diesel costs more to buy in the first place and unless you do mega miles you don't break even!

Money is now not so free flowing, so changing car is a no as I am buying a house, i'll keep this for 2 years then get a Golf GTI or the Leon FR :D

but your talking stupid. Why wouldn't you want the car that has the same performance but cost less to, tax, insurance and run? I'm not one for arguing over the internet so i'll just say everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Evo tested the petrol and diesel cupra and they were within 2 tenths of a second 0 - 100. Take into account the extra gear changes of the diesel and they you might understand about real world performance and not traffic light grand prixs.

Chipped petrol won't do many miles to the gallon that I am sure of.

Yep, but we are talking about on a typical British A/B road. The diesel is much more use imo. The petrol will obviously come into its own screaming up the rev range on a racetrack. How often do you do this?

My workvan is a diesel.:p

because its noisey when going through town and it kicks out black smoke when you put your foot down . you say money wasnt a reason you bought a derv but keep bringing it up

:banghead: Your derv's faster than either of them? IIRC, my chipped FR TDi (186BHP) lost a fight with a Clio 182 cup, and I wasn't just a little bit behind, I was well and truly left behind.

My 20VT cupra even struggles a bit against them pesky Clio's. The Saxo's prolly faster still, but it's a bit to C.H.A.V for my liking, so i'll leave it there before it turns ugly

:duck: Also, how about a :ban: on this thread before Ad Lav, Luke C and Georgel start a 3rd world war? :p

this thread sucks it bothers me so much if you want a car for milage and cheap to run and are not fused about having atractor engine then buy the derv as they are punchy engines and are good for people who want to save or like the torquey drive

but if you want good perforance with a high reving nice sounding car and the choice to mod very easily and arent fussed about going to the petrol station a little more oftern get a bloody petrol simple!

this is a non answer question as it is simply down to OPINION

I LIKE PETROL YOU LIKE DERV SIMPLE AS now lets end this sh7te!!!!!!

same old story, the derv geeks start boasting about MPG and Torque then the thread goes in the scrap yard

why do people feel the need to slag off people with the same car running on a different fuel ?

I must say though for the record I think the loud derv people just seem to have an inferiority complex

Diesel drivers and their torque....pfftt....

Try a 1000nm MB AMG and see what torque really is. Petrol only though  :p
