Help with turbos?!?!

Hello everyone, I have been reading posts for quite a while now but as time has now become precious I would be grateful for some urgent help!!

I drive a Leon Cupra T, I've put a pipecross panel filter, Forge dv, Milltek cat-back, and a Revo remap on it. I'm already booked in to get my car fixed on thursday to get a thermostat problem fixed but as is my luck these days last night I broke down!!

The breakdown guy diagnosed it and it came up with no errors logged and (as I feared) told me that it would have to be turbo related. I'm going to get my car looked at by a friend on Tues but as im booked in on thursday already I was wondering if worst came to the worst I could replace my entire turbo with a Cupra R turbo?!?!

PLEASE HELP!! and thank you very much!

EEEEYYY! thanks for the reply dude!!!

Basically my engine is constantly running cold so I was told that it might be my car is constantly running on "safe mode" because it can't detect how hot my engine is?!?!! hence y i think the stat is bein replaced.

The problem with a turbo sounds completely uneventful, no explosions or any thing (bit dissapointed).

I was just driving along, loss of power, engine light came on, engine felt like it was rotating unevenly and a low hoarse growl. And after I left it for a while it would idle fine, but if i revved it then the problem started again.

I'd try a coolant temp sensor first. This can be checked in 17 - dash panel and often logs a fault in there as oppose to the engine.

Have you felt the top and bottom hoses in the engine bay? Or are you just going off the gauge?

Just going off the gauge mate, I've also tried blowing hot air through as well and that seems to be coming through cold. and also there were no errors logged, I'm booked in on thursday to get it checked out any way mate, I just need to be prepared turbo-wise incase I need to buy a new turbo and get it delivered before thursday I thought I might as well try and upgrade instead of replace.

It could be going into limp mode due to incorrect temp readings. A failed temp sensor will read 0 all the time.

Really? wow thats cool so the turbo might be fine and i can go on upgrading! cheers mate! the only thing is that my temp gauge has been getting progressively worse over about a month so I can't see why it would all of a sudden die on me instead of starting to limp out progressively with the stat?

The thermo resistor in the sensor gradually fails and eventually gives no reading. Better to go down the £15-20 route than dive in and fit a £500 turbo.

I think the cupra has a ko3 and the R has a ko4 not personally sure if they are interchangeable.

Yea I heard about being able to get a ko3 and making a kind of hybrid ko4 turbo but presumed I would need a working ko3 turbo to start with, didn't know people made the full hybrid turbo thanks!

just a thought but sounds like thermostat sticking then engines going into safe mode and cutting itself out:shrug:

Hi mate cheers for the reply.

Just to show my newbiness, by manifold do you means the downpipe?!?

sort of you would need larger downpipe for better bhp but i mean manifold as in what turbo and exhaust join to at rear of engine mines a 18t 20v so same as you.

IIRC the coolant temp sensor is for ecu readings, the temp gauge is driven by the sensor in the expansion bottle, make sure it has a green base and a new o ring :)

Just as a matter of course... this sounds a bit like a coilpack failure... have you checked this?
