Yep as said its Electronic

Syphon Mike was talking to us about it when we where down in Farnborough you must of been out in a car at the time? He was saying The Golf GTI has it aswell and probably a fair few of the Audi's

Of this is true then swapping out for an aftermarket exhaust should remove the noise...

Lol, wonder who would be the first trying to get the right software to make his Cupra FL sound like a v12 Lamborghini.
Once read about a kit on Ebay that could make you car sound like any make you want (inside and outside). Having found this out it would be the first item that would have to go in my car.

As far as i am aware the sound is not connected to the Exhaust at all, Its basically a Speaker that is controlled by The ECU and the Throttle,Therefore fitting a Milltek etc wouldnt affect the noise

I might be mistaken but thats the conclusion ive reached

Is it heard only inside the car or can it be heard outside, something I can't check whilst driving it myself!

I feal let down, as the sound is amazing, wish I hadn't read this thread, it's like finding out Father Christmas isn't real :(

Just inside

When Me and Syphon went for the Seat Media day i got them to strap a microphone (Tiny little one) on the bumper near the exhausts, i then went for a "Spirited" drive around some twistys and when we played back the sound it was Amazing!

I'm pretty sure that's how it works

Yeh it makes sense

Somehow connected to the Pedal, it measures the RPM and out comes the equivalet sound

Yep on the Boc its behind the dash near the wiper motors. I'd assume its in a similar place on the Cupra.

Its an electronic sound module and the volume and sound is dependant on speed, rpm and throttle position.

To think I have been harping on about how good my car sounds for the last few months. I feel like I have been bummed . . . . . still sounds fantastic though and i'd rather it was there than not because the TFSI can sound weak without any mods.

I will try and dig out the sound recordings i did in the LCR then you will hear the real noise that can be heard outside

If its an electronic module, then is there a separate fuse for it?

Ive had 2 Golf GTIs, and they sounded better outside the car than in - the exhaust was pretty raspy, sound def came from the rear of the car; open the windows down a back street and you could hear it better. In the LCR, open the windows and... well nothing really.

I got my son to rev the engine whilst I stood outside - from the rear you hear the slightly boomy exhaust, but thats about it. From the front sounds like any other car - but put your head inside the door. Guess its done to keep within EU noise limits or something, yet you still feel your driving a performance car. If I could turn it off whilst on the phone would be good :)

Mike (Head of SEAT UK PR) told us a story

Everytime he rang somebody they would ask what he was driving, because it was really loud, Turns out the bluetooth picks up the engine noise aswell :cartman:

lol I knew it was in the Ibiza Bocanegra but never realised it was in the FL leon!!

Has made me chuckle! I cant wait for our meet at the end of Jan. I'm gonna have to hear this for myself :cartman::cartman:

When I spoke to Mike previously (LRC sneak preview) he said it enhanced the sound from the engine bay. I don't think it's a totally fake sound, just boosts (and tweaks) the sound from the engine bay into the cabin.

LCR outside vs inside noise:

I guess this "speaker" setup could be retrofitted to a pre-facelift cupra then? I admit it, I love the noise in the cabin - I can get over the fact that it's a fake :p

Love the comment @ 2:07 hahaha

As for the sound, I think i'll make my mind up when I hear it in person. From outside, i've heard it before and its not that much of a different sound to mine. Perhaps a bit deeper, but that could be down to the exhaust. They both have a slight burble on tickover. I think there is a few people coming to the meet with FL LC's and one FL LCR. so i will ask to have a 'sound test' lol

Must say tho, people are saying its scooby-esque. I feel its more of a VR6 engine sound from inside?

Clever engineering, no doubt. Does make it sound like an EDV style system though

And should anyone be interested in adding this to their car, I believe theres a product called RIDETONES for sale in the for sale section:

;) I'm sure it could be adapted to do this

This is the little device that makes the engine sound more "aggresive" hehehehehehhe

^^^^^no mic listed there then so it's just a sound generator and not enhanced engine bay sounds. I bet if you operate it with Vag-Com it sounds like you're doing a ton on your driveway.
