Just thought i'd give yous an update on this. I wish I'd chased this up sooner with the dealer after speaking to them this week.

I'm taking the car in next week and they're going to list everything that's been done to it. I spoke to the service dept today, the guy I spoke to asked the mechanics that's worked on the car and he's said that it's definitely lowered, springs etc
Plus he thinks the turbo's been modified so like you guys have said above, it's likely to be chipped too

What the mechanic said is that it's been a professional job, apparently he said to the service rep that if I didn't want it he'd definitely take it off my hands :D

I don't blame the sales guy, he was actually a really nice guy and said he didn't know seats. I reckon his manager has told him it's been unmodified.
I feel a bit stupid too as at the back of my mind I thought it didn't look standard.
I'll be speaking to the general manager when I take it in so will let you know how that goes.

I don't know whether to phone my insurance company tonight, whats your thoughts? Would they ask me not to drive it till everythings known or could they increase insurance cover to cover me till then?

thanks for all the help by the way guys

edit: I'm thinking whoever's modified my motor is probably a member here, anyone from the glasgow area recognise your old motor?
What are you intending to do, personally I would tell them to have it back for what you paid for it, eigther that or get you another of that spec that's unmodified.

At the moment I'm thinking I'd like to keep it but I'll wait till next week once I know all the info. I'd been thinking anyway about bluefin but it looks like it's all been done for me so far!
I thought I got it for a good price, they were doing deals at the time which lowered the price a bit

Takes the piss though to think they have sold u car like that, I think I would swap it just out of principle then the mods you want you do your self, that way you know what's been done.

Cheers mate, Aye I'm not too happy about that, like I say I don't blame the sales guy as he was brand new, he was taking his info either from his sales manager or someone else.
When I meet the service manager I'll make my mind up what i want to do depending on what recourse he offers and I've a complaint letter sitting waiting to be sent to SEAT and AC head office if he doesn't

Is it an FR? If the turbo has been modified check that they haven't put on a K04 otherwise if you remove the remap you'll knacker the car.

Have you dyno'd the car at all?

I'd wait and see what the dealer says before telling your insurance. At this point you are still of the belief the car is stock as that is what you have in writing from the dealer until they officially tell you otherwise.

You might end up with a load of bolt on parts that add up as well as a newer or bigger turbo. Either way it will increase your insurance. I would expect the dealership to take the car back or make up the difference on your insurance premium for the next 2 yrs.

Yeh it's an FR, is there an easyish way to tell if it's a K04?

No dyno yet though 4 month ago was thinking about taking it to autohaus to speak to the pros
Thanks for the advice mate, I'll wait to see what the dealers say but Im starting to lean towards a replacement.

The thing is, I paid for 2 yrs autocare on top so I'll be expecting big licks back :D

I think thats gotta be one of the main things. Chances are the mods wont cause much harm to the car, but the problem is that you dont know all the mods, so they havent/cant be declared and therefore your insurance policy is invalidated.

At the very least the garage should take the car in, do a thorough check and tell you everything on it. Then you can go down the replacement route!

Doesn't look like it has a KO4 fitted , there is no front diverted valve relocation.
If you like the car and are going to keep it , wait until you get the full list of mods from the garage , get a quote from your insurance company and ask the garage to make up the difference on your insurance and have a free service thrown in as well

Just one other thing I noticed its a 2007 car, has the timing belt been changed ? If not haggle over that as well.

id be handing it back personally as you dont know whats been done and may never know.

replacement car is the route that id go down, if you want to do anything to the car you then know whats been done and when you come to move the car on theres no comeback on you as you can always revert the car back to standard.

from an insurance point of view it restricts were you can go to insure as quite a number of companies wont touch modified cars and those who do normally add a loading.

as for the timing belt, really dig yours heels in if that has not been changed the recommended interval is a maximum of 4 years, ive done this on my 08 i bought in january and got mine changed free of charge.

and as for car salesmen........there reputation preceeds them

So a further update, it's a waste of time speaking to them. The only other thing confirmed and that's because the sales manager spoke to the last owner, there's an induction kit fitted.
What Arnold Clark have confirmed although in completely vague terms. Upgraded turbo, lowered, springs and coilovers, upgraded exhaust and they couldn't tell me if it's been chipped.
Obviously it would have been.

So I spoke to my insurance and they've referred to the underwriter as obviously I don't have enough detail. They''ll contact me on monday but I'm insured till they make a decision. It sounded like the underwriter may come out to inspect the car?

I suppose it's obvious to me now Arnold Clark don't have the expertise or machinery to determine these things.
One of the sales manager's quotes was "look at it this way, you've maybe won a watch considering the money that's been spent on it".

I'm good dealing with situations like this and made sure I got every point across to him, I said I'll expect a full refund depending on what the outcome is.

About the timing belt, not the major issue at the moment but service are adamant that it needs to be changed at 120k and not 4 years. I phoned Seat customer care and they confirmed whichever is sooner though the ******** at Arnold Clark service said he also called them with my VIN and it's 120k.

Thanks for all the help guys, without you I'd be relying on the incompetence and/or intentional untruths of the dealer

Sounds like a very poor dealer.

Do you have the service manual? Cambelt is 60k or 4 years.

Did they state what turbo had been put on? Any info on the injectors?

One thing to bear in mind, if it has been mapped - and potentially an upgraded turbo - the next FR you get won't be as fun or as fast to drive...

You might wanna look for a Cupra now!

haha, that's what I'm most :censored: off about. I thought all Leon TFSI/FSI FR's were like this. I did want a cupra but the timing just wasn't right.

Barely any info at all from the dealers, I get the impression they're just a factory, cars in cars out.
They said definitely a turbo upgrade but couldn't tell what, surely that means a stage 2 tune? If so what do you reckon the BHP is sitting around? I should have done what I said I'd do, take it to Autohaus and get them to inspect it when still under warranty

I worked in the motor trade in scotland for many years and would never buy a
car from arnold the robbing clark. Salesmen lie and dont care once you've handed over the
cash and there aftersales are a :censored:ing joke.

Dont the spring upgrades from Seat come in a red colour? You know from the accessories list.

Fish

I'd be properly angry at AC I think - doesn't exactly inspire confidence for anything else they may have 'overlooked'.

I sold my Leon last week ( :( ) - part exchanged her for a Civic (I know, it was proper hard to leave the Leon actually, but needs must at the moment) and although only running a stage 1 remap (nothing quite as impressive as the mods yours has OP!) it still concerns me that someone might end up with it unknowingly! I did tell the dealers, made sure they knew what it was and what it did etc., even asked if they wanted me to take her in to get it removed, but they declined.

It would be interesting to know who the responsibility lies with in the case of insurance dispute given to the best of your knowledge you were buying a stock car....?

Ok so another update, it's been a horrible last few days trying to deal with Arnold Clark and my insurance company.

I went in to speak to the sales manager again on friday, that was a waste of 2 hours. Phoned the insurance company to let them know AC were now telling me of all the upgrades, I wish I'd held off on this but I like being insured to drive.
My insurance called me on monday morning and told me they were cancelling my insurance, to be fair they gave me another day to sort things out before it was cancelled and offered me the option of cancelling so it wouldn't effect my premiums (I didn't even know this could happen)

Spoke to sales manager again on Monday, I was trying hard not to lose my head at him but through all his bluster and sales shite I told him he had 2 options, either get a good garage to inspect the car (and I'd take it from there) or I get a full refund.

I said I'd like it inspected by Autohaus as I'd heard good things about them on here. Great lads in there (especially Davie) and they obviously know their stuff. It was in for an hour and he's confirmed the only thing done to it is H&R lowering springs (said it's lowered by 15mm max), definitely no turbo or exhaust upgrades and no remap. He also reckons it's a good motor

So basically, Arnold Clark Seat service department don't know their own cars!!

AC now need to fax the underwriter (whos dealing with the case now) confirmation, after that I should be fine.
The sales manager had the cheek to ask me to retract the complaint I emailed AC customer services last night, they've obviously been on his back which is good.
I'll be formally complaining to AC and Seat, I'm shocked at this bunch of cowboys. Some of the nonsense the manager was coming away with made me laugh

Am really impressed with Autohaus, am even thinking about a revo remap from them! But that'll be my choice and I'll know when to tell the insurers.
I've wasted days on this
