how long to swap engine and gearbox

just wondered if anybody knew how long it would take to swap gti 8v engine and gearbox? replacing both at the same time. gonna have front end off out of the way and get an engine crane.

I could do it in 4hrs, probably including removing the front end. Probably a fair bit less if there was more than just one person doing it.

front end can be off in 20 mins tops since its tiestrapped on. just me unfortunatley.

doddle then - worst part of the whole job will be undoing the exhaust manifold nuts, and the driveshaft bolts.

All the rest is quick & easy. Just jack the car up as high as possible & remember to leave the power steering pump on the car, not connected to the engine.

I don't know if the cat will foul the subframe.

I dropped all my engines out the bottom, so didn't have that problem

well it took me 4 hours just to get my gearbox out! but then again never had experience before

depending how awkward the aformentioned are its easily doable in an afternoon with an engine crane...
itll come out with the downpipe on with a bit of jiggery pokery but youre better off leaving it in the car id say

I'm guna Say about 5 hours all in took me over 3 days 3hours but I was distracted lable all ur wires upon removal even if u position ao u no where it goes also get if self A spotter incase it falls on u or u get in trouble ( look at me I start an engine conversion and imbgivibg advice haha)


While ur going that get a decat pipe clean ur engine an check everything so u don't put It in and find needs a new pump/ seal /badger

lol i also have a drill bit that has a wire brush nice bit wd40 and a cloth then wiring gets it all up why u spilling ur gbox oil any way and vince make sure u do it right pleaeeeeeee i dont want to read in a few months u been scammed or destroyed it

i think new engine is coming with loom attatched upto the ecu but dont know for sure. got a spare alternator and power steering pump with it and what im hoping is a working dizzy that isnt run by timing thats out.
