Am relatively new to the art of detailing (only recently discovered the 2 bucket method and that you shouldn't use a sponge but a wash mitt) but given I have a new Ibiza to look after and keep in good condition I just want to know how often you should do stuff.

I assume washing the car should just be done when its looking dirty but then for things like Autoglym polishes or Meguiars 3 stage crystal stuff, should this be done everytime you wash it or what?

Without going OTT, what is everybody's cleaning routine? (e.g. wash every 2 weeks, polish once a month, wax every 3-4 months, clay once a year etc?) Don't want to be overdoing things and running the risk of damaging paintwork but likewise want to keep it protected and looking good.

Cheers

i try and wash every week, polish once a month, and every 6 months I'll do a 3 step Meg's treatment to get rid of winter / summer contaminents.

Please note I am no authority, and just a regular bod who wants to keep his car clean. I wish I had enough time to 'detail'!

wash weekly (i do)
polish when it looks like paint needs it (scratches etc)
wax when beading becomes less noticeble

clay, yearley/6monthly

There's a guide think (jpeg pic) on DW, but i either can't find it, or the pic aint loading at work)

So if its just a standard weekly wash, then do people just buff it at the end or are there any sprays used to help buff etc as I tend to get water spots even after thoroughly drying that can be a bit stubborn?

You can use a quick detailer spray when drying. This will help repel the water on the car and also add a bit of bling to the finish at the same time.
