How To: Retrofit a heated steering wheel to a Mk3 Leon

In an attempt to retrofit 5Q1 clock spring in my car (originally 5Q0, without keyless) I bought on AliExpress 5Q1905865A ignition/starter switch and 5Q0972706 6-pin connector. Housing for switch might need replacing (current 1K0905851B vs 1K0905851D for 5Q1) but it's hard to tell without disassembling car.
I was also able to buy second hand 5Q1953549G clock spring (previous one was unfortunately broken) so if 5Q0 to 5Q1 swap will be successful then I could add two additional wires if needed to my steering wheel. As mentioned previously in this topic, that particular clock spring have two additional wires that are used exclusively for Start/Stop Engine button and I am not going to retrofit keyless in my car.
There is a potential to add orange light that will notice about heated steering wheel activation but I have to test that further. Definitely will let you know in this topic!

Hi everyone, I'm Carlos, I have a 2019 Leon MK3 with VC, following the forum I got all the parts to have a heated steering wheel, with the ring to have start buttons and driving modes, also the steering wheel, the 5q1 adapter for the ring, my question is... Having these components, what additional wiring do I have to do, so that the start from the steering wheel and the driving modes work. Thank you very much in advance
Unfortunately it is not well documented how to retrofit Cupra and Start/Stop Engine buttons from VZ steering wheel in Leon 3.
There are 2 known things though:
- you HAVE TO install 5Q1953549G slip ring which have two additional wires for Start/Stop Engine button, then you have to attach those two wires to the car (where? I don't know yet)
- you HAVE TO change parametrisation in Gateway so the car knows what to do when Cupra button is pressed, you can modify it here: https://mqbtools.nl/fpa/
Other than that there are few other quirks, e.g. airbag loom have to be correct so it will fit to the slip ring and VZ steering wheel connectors.
Tengo el anillo 5Q1953549G, estaba pensando en pasar un cable al botón de arranque de mi auto, y un cable al BCM donde están los modos de conducción... pero no se vería muy OEM.
There is no dedicated wire in airbag loom nor slip ring for Cupra button. It is integrated within CAN/LIN communication between slip ring and BCM/Gateway - don't know much details about that but it doesn't matter in your case - thus why you have to adjust gateway parametrisation.
