In an attempt to retrofit 5Q1 clock spring in my car (originally 5Q0, without keyless) I bought on AliExpress 5Q1905865A ignition/starter switch and 5Q0972706 6-pin connector. Housing for switch might need replacing (current 1K0905851B vs 1K0905851D for 5Q1) but it's hard to tell without disassembling car.

I was also able to buy second hand 5Q1953549G clock spring (previous one was unfortunately broken) so if 5Q0 to 5Q1 swap will be successful then I could add two additional wires if needed to my steering wheel. As mentioned previously in this topic, that particular clock spring have two additional wires that are used exclusively for Start/Stop Engine button and I am not going to retrofit keyless in my car.

There is a potential to add orange light that will notice about heated steering wheel activation but I have to test that further. Definitely will let you know in this topic!

Hi everyone, I'm Carlos, I have a 2019 Leon MK3 with VC, following the forum I got all the parts to have a heated steering wheel, with the ring to have start buttons and driving modes, also the steering wheel, the 5q1 adapter for the ring, my question is... Having these components, what additional wiring do I have to do, so that the start from the steering wheel and the driving modes work. Thank you very much in advance

Unfortunately it is not well documented how to retrofit Cupra and Start/Stop Engine buttons from VZ steering wheel in Leon 3.

There are 2 known things though:
- you HAVE TO install 5Q1953549G slip ring which have two additional wires for Start/Stop Engine button, then you have to attach those two wires to the car (where? I don't know yet)
- you HAVE TO change parametrisation in Gateway so the car knows what to do when Cupra button is pressed, you can modify it here: https://mqbtools.nl/fpa/

Other than that there are few other quirks, e.g. airbag loom have to be correct so it will fit to the slip ring and VZ steering wheel connectors.

Tengo el anillo 5Q1953549G, estaba pensando en pasar un cable al botón de arranque de mi auto, y un cable al BCM donde están los modos de conducción... pero no se vería muy OEM.

There is no dedicated wire in airbag loom nor slip ring for Cupra button. It is integrated within CAN/LIN communication between slip ring and BCM/Gateway - don't know much details about that but it doesn't matter in your case - thus why you have to adjust gateway parametrisation.

I would do it completely differently, just connect the steering wheel with the signals to the original connector in parallel

Leaving aside the satellite buttons, with the ring, the airbag, the steering wheel and the heated steering wheel cable from AliExpress, I will have the steering wheel functions active and the heated steering wheel (with coding, of course). Is this correct?

Hi, the required 5q1 G slip ring for the VZ steering wheel with satellite buttons has a different pin layout than that of the standard steering wheel (on which this thread is mainly focused on in terms of wiring diagrams etc). The pin layout of your Aliexpress adapter is probably incorrect. You should compare your car's wiring with that of a Cupra VZ/VZ5. Then you can determine the correct pin layout for the adapter. Connecting without checking the pin layout can result in loss of steering wheel functionality. As far as I know, the airbag wires are also on different pins for the G slip ring, so I don't recommend messing with it without proper knowledge.

It should be possible. But you need to make sure that the right hardware/software versions are installed. Start stop satelite will not work due to the lack of kessy in prefacelift models. Also I haven't found a vz steering wheel with satelite buttons and without DSG paddles yet. I'm not sure if they exist, and if they exist they will be rare.

I do think that with just VCDS you can't update the gateway to get the mode button working. I think most cupra's from 2016 and onwards where installed with the high version gateway. If yours is not you also need to retrofit a gateway high, which requires cp to be removed.

You also need to do the 5q0 to 5q1 slipring conversion. In previous posts there is more info regarding this conversion.

Okay thanks for the fast respond. I will look further what i can do. but the normal mk4 steering wheel without the buttons and heated steeringwheel is possible to install?

Ok guys, i'm finally coming back to it with this time a scan that show an error in the installation, problem is ... I checked 10 times and everything is correctly put together and power is here (fuze) ... So if anyone know ... Probably a bad steering wheel or the wheel spring ... (The only thing i bought out of Aliexpress...) Thx !

Had exactly the same issue on my end with Aliexpress clock spring after 2 month of usage. Switched it to used 2nd hand clock spring and since then everything is working fine.

I've heard that some contacts on PCB of those Aliexpress clock spring could be resoldered to solve the issue but I don't remember details.
