Induction kit and maybe an exhuast. You wouldnt see very good gains though, and as i said in another of your posts, it might be better to save and upgrade to a diesel.

Or a petrol! lol....

But who would want to do that with the masses of torque, lower insurance and the look on that 182 Drivers face when you tell him its a DERV?! Muwahaha!

Sorry, little off topic, but was funny right!

As said, zorst, cold air induction kit, but that will be more "sound" that "performance" benifit.

I believe the best way to mod any petrol engine:

1. Sell car, buy diesel one
2. Enjoy

Not much help. sorry. but really is the way to go. you cant really get much out of the 1.4 can you? Hopefully someone who is not diesel bias will come along to help matey

Sir Sparkster: that was funny...26days till CC woooooo lol

Here I am. I owned an Ibiza TDi FR for a few months, Revo'd no less. After 4 months I am back in a petrol LCR :p

The diesel is a great little car, but if you are an out and out petrol head the lack of revs and short torque range can wear thin eventually.

If you have to stick with your current motor then air filter and exhaust will give you more top end but you will lose some torque and back pressure.

In my balanced opinion you can get much more torque from a remapped diesel 1.4TDi than you can from a 1.4 petrol. Why? The turbo. Diesel would be as weak as petrol without the turbo, but the high compression ratio and solid bottom end make good gains when a turbo is added. In a 1.4 16V weight savings (if its practical) - lose rear seats, bucket seats, no spare wheel (space saver or repair kit), super light magnesium alloys (2nd hand if you can) are your best bet unless you save up for your next motor and just grin and bear it for now.

i had a k&n in the summer but ive took it out for the summer and it did loose quite a bit of torgue but it was quicker i think i will just have to save and get the 1.9 Tdi but is it that noticeable speed difference? and the insurance from group 4 to either 5 or 8 i think... damn thats like 1-2 years worth of saving :( for the extra £3k if not more :(

There is not a lot you can get from any NA car without spending quite heavely on it. (Unless it's been ECU crippled like the Mini One).

my tuning on a n/a engine would be

induction filter
exhuast
racing or profiled camshaft
+ superchip

would squeeze the engine for all thats its worth!

maybe a 15-20% bhp increase, torque would drop or stay same.

could try a ebay resistor !!

Cant really compare a PD130 to a LCR tho! Different league, even with a remap mine wont keep up with a LCR, if you place it next to the petrol 20vt FR, then for the extra torque, less insurance it makes up for being that little slower, and with the money you save, remap and its faster :D

Lets keep it like for like here!!

Not really a different league.

But don't get me started on the differences between the 20vt and the Derv.

The 20vt is obviously the one you want if you want ultimate performance for sure, And LCR's are'nt untouchable. I mean the 20vt Ibiza still pips an LCR for me personally, even with em both chipped up the Ibiza still has BHp per tonne advantage, but thats anoter story, and mine in top condition embarassed a few LCR's too.

Anyway, if i had the chance i would go this route.

Ibiza mk4 1.4,

Blue print the engine, reprofiled cams and gas flowed head. Throttle bodies, Straqht through exhaust, Baffled sump. Direct injection into each trumpet nitrous & maximiser kit.

Strip the interior except for 2 buckets, lose the elctric windows and nicetys, bin the aircon, Perspex windows, full weld in roll cage.

LSD, Uprated cluth. Toyo R888 road legal slicks, 15" light weight compomotives, uprate discs and pads, bias valve to adjust brake balance, Coilover suspension all round, stru brace front and rear.

I imagine that is abit OTT, but by christ it would be a craking car and low on the Tax.

take the bits you would like.

But serioulsy look at Nitrous it still impresses me, and my mate keeps on about how good the results are on Tdi's so i keep thinking about it.

but an FR tdi would never be as good as that spec would it.

My mate has a Nova with that spec above bar the 1.4 engine is a 2.0 with all those bits done and it flies. high 12's on the qtr mile and handles like a dream.

But yeah that was an over the top idea of what to do.
