We've had our ECO now since Christmas, and have covered around 3500 miles in it. Our average MPG is sat somewhere aroud 57, but peaks around 68 due to the long national speed limit drives we do (town driving then kills it).

This tank looks liek we may get 550+, previous have been 470 up to about 520.

Just wondered what you other Eco owners are getting?

I thought the Eco would have been a bit better than that. My week old 1.6 CR TDI has done just under 500 miles on its first tank of fuel.

I don't get why ours isn't that good then. I dont drive it hard, I drive conservative in it... thats the whole point in owning an Eco.

Average over this tank so far is about 65mpg, got 495 miles left and done 115ish.

So still good, but not as good as 76?..What is your drive to the dealership like from home mate? Maybe its our journey being a mixture of nationals and 30s, and traffic!

Also 4th gear seems alot better for MPG at 60mph, than 5th. 5th seems to struggle no matter what speed I do...

Weird? :(

Hi,

Just want to put my two pence in here.

Had my 1.4 ECO since Sept, so around 6 months is, and its now on 17K. I have averaged 53.9mpg (according my spreadsheet) and I ONLY drive motorways and big A roads (A12, M25, M20).

Mix of driving speeds mainly due to traffic conditions. Have seen 71mpg and also 43mpg over the course of a journey.

Should I be worried? Book it in for a diagnostics?

Rich.

What speed do you drive at? I have noticed anything above 70 (cough) makes 60+ MPG difficult to achieve.

I also find 4th gear is better when cruising around 40-50mph.

Current tank looks to return around 670miles :)

I managed to get 69.8mpg on a 300 mile motorway trip, I got this figure by driving at about 60-65mph. I have found that driving at 70mph would drop that figure down to about 55mpg.
This is in the 1.6TDI.

Hank is totally right, even with the 1.4 version. 60-65 will easily return 60+mpg. Anything over 70mph and you will drop too easily to late 50s mpg. Maybe the ECO is a bit of a false economy. Maybe the engine is too small for motorway cruises.

Should I return to VAG 1.9TDi unit (previously had a passat that got 55mpg at 'around' 70ish mph)?

If motorway driving is your main use, perhaps a 1.9TDI would be better suited.

We do alot of nationals, but they are duel carriage ways mixed in with roundabouts and single carriage ways, so don't cruise along for long periods.

Perhaps a Diesel Cupra MK4 ;)

The 1.2 CR TDI ecomotive will be out in the next 6 months or so. It should be a good improvement over the old 1.4 PD TDI in the current eco.
