See HERE mine holds power well ( until the wastegate blows open at 6000rpm ish ) and should hold better when stiffer actuator is fitted.

From my research and what I have been told IHI VF34 can do upto 340bhp and can do 320/330bhp safely if you watch EGTs and fueling as this is what makes the exhaust housing crack and warp. Bearings going is a different matter. I dont think VF34 can make a real 360bhp its dyno lottery.

IHI isnt just about peak figures its about how and where it holds and the usability of it. I much prefer it to the k03 type delivery and even a friend of mines 280bhp k04. Hybrid IHI such as Owens use their own exhaust housings so dont crack.

Seriously Shanty your boost is more than likely the main reason for your low power and torque as its not as high as other IHI with figures nearer the ones you were expecting.

Agreed , if you can hold 1.4 or 1.5 bar to red line then your looking at 320-330 ish.

Personally I would not run a vf34 past 230-235g/s airflow. This will be 1.3 bar at the top end on a small port, and will give a real 300-310hp.

Squeezing that extra 10-20hp will run the bearings past their limits, and will lead to cracked wastegate ports due to high egt's

I killed 4 before I gave up on vf34's.

Caveo. Chances are that your wastegate won't close properly due to the flange where it mates being warped. A stronger actuator will not help. A healthy vf34 on a standard actuator does not have these issues. Buy a new exhaust housing, and run the boost a bit lower at the top end, or it'll happen again.

And what should i expect to pay for that then ( soz shanty for hijacking )

Theres talk of 1.2bar and 1.1bar at the top end if the boost is set at that then its about right but if like my old setup 1.6bar and 1.3bar at redline then its down.

IHI is only good for 325-335bhp on an average smallport etc, yoiu might get the odd lucky run of 340bhp on the odd car the above is pushing quite hard.

caveo...red spring actuator...eeek. bit harsh aint it ?

shanty....you say you have big plans....just buy mine to save th e hasle

That what forge recamended when i said i wanted to hold 1.5 BAR ????

they have given you a 1.5bar spring.....not the spring to hold 1.5bar

iirc you get a spring with the pressure that is half of your intended boost pressure.

i.e 1.5bar boost pressure = 0.75bar spring pressure or there about

stewbie - id love to do some logs but dont have VAGCOM and my understanding of it goes about as far as reading & wiping fault codes..unfortunately there doesnt really appear to be anyone that nearby either.

madmile - i'll order a new maf asap just to see if it helps, as for the whitish blue smoke, im no expert but i thought if it was overfuelling there would be black smoke?

That's why I recommended JKM, they will run VAGCOM logs whilst running on their RR and more importantly know how to interpret them, they also understand about the Jabba boost controller and they're fairly local too.

Cant remember, but the whole turbo is only about £650, so £150ish I would expect.
5 downpipe nuts, 3 manifold nuts, one clamp, and it's off. Should be 2-3 hours labour, tops.

Yep, I picked up a new housing from Owen's for £95 +vat

stewbie - i'll look into going there if im still not reaching the figures im after once the rebuild has been done...

hooch - i'd love too mate, but i've bought her now at a good price & i certainly dont fancy joining the second hand car market at the moment! yours is a total animal though, how much is it up for?

pj - if its just down to the current boosting levels should i be taking it back to jabba for a higher map? i'd be happy with 310-320....not 280 :S i see what you mean about the usability of it but i want MORE POWER! a friend of mine is currently stripping a mk5 polo gti & whacking in a 20vt with a k04...i cant have him keeping up

caveo - i like the figures you are getting..is yours the same turbo then?

If theres no codes and no problems then yes I think you need more boost. Dont know what gauges you have to monitor things but you should get wideband and egt so you can check things like fuelling yourself.

Caveo doesnt know which turbo he has. He should ask JBS.
