I was about to say the MAF is dieing as that is probably the only thing that could have caused this, if it was slowly dying before you put the open air filter on then its possibbly given up now, try the maf and report back :D

yea im interested in this to see how it was fixed. i cant think of any other reason why this would throw the car into limp mode of its getting to much heat soak

do you still have the under bonnet carpet on ??

Even so the heat soak isnt that bad it wud cause it to run bad like a N/A engine so its definalty not that causing it, plenty of people run open air filters without a problem, chances are its a dieing MAF, if there oiled filters and it was dieing that may be the answer.

so if i remove the carpet that will keep the engine a little cooler, also the dv should be a little louder!
so this is were i stand at the moment. i just orderd the maf sensor,
also im looking into a new induction kit. the type im looking for is a direct cold feed system. DIA do one and pipercross do the venom 1.
i think both will keep the air cooler than a open cone filter.
also guys can you recommend a vag com?
thanks

Yes the carpet will alter temps slightly as the bonnet will absorb some heat and dissperse it into the air, there will also be a noticed increase in noise aswell. Plumb a decent CAF into your current airfilter and it will mostly be the same with little diffrence. A heatsheild and CAF will make a diffrence.

To be honest that filter is only rated to 265bhp
If you are running a LCR on a stage 2 maybe only stage 1 you will exceed this
I would suggest something bigger

hmmmmm i read threw your thread, and from what your saying,im thinking of one problem?!?!!

cant remember if you had the fault codes read?

on your intake (shiny red one) there is a hose that comes up from the back of the acuator to the sideof the airintake hose, check it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mine split ,meaning there was to much hot air around the engine bay.. leading to limp home mode!

only thing i had was. it was ok when i converted back to standard, due to the fact the angle had moved very slightly ,but the split was still there and needed to be cut out and repaired.
so have a look and let me know what you find.......

If the hose is N75 to actuator then i had a problem doing this in silicone.
Actuator accepts 5mm whilst N75 takes 8mm, so needs an in line reducer
Existing pipe has same outside diameter but internal is different at each end

the new maf sensor came 2day. the only trouble is they sent the wrong 1:( 70mm instead of 80mm fitting. now euro parts say they need to speak to vw and seat to find out what 1 i need, the silly thing is i no the 1 i want but they say they need to find out for sure.

i was thinking that but i wasnt sure if the element was the same. so its ok to do that then?

Yeah there the same, just diffrent size housing to suit specific pipe work, just take old one out and be gentle, then take new one out and lift it streigh into the old housing, but before unbolting the new one clean the old maf housing so its nice and dust/dirt/grease free then put it streight in without touching anything.
