So let's get this right some people prefer panel filters and some cones.

I want to keep the original look so a panel filter is sealed in the air box with cold air feel so I think that's the best option plus a remap

On a turbo car there's nothing wrong with the standard air box and panel filter. But you won't get as many gains from it as you would from a cone as they don't flow as well.

Panel filter = less noise and keeping things looking OEM
Cone filter = induction roar and dumping noise and more airflow which means more power.

Again that depends on which filter you go for, A filter which has a larger surface area will ultimately be better hence why they're used more often on high powered Jap cars however a lot of it depends on what the filter is made of.

HKS do a Mushroom filter made of foam and it was causing all sorts of issues when it broke up and started getting pieces sucked into the turbo's so it's not something you really want to be doing if you can help it.

Here's a link to a test done by Fast Car magazine with a few other people testing cone filters. Granted the car used was a MK5 Fiesta ST but the results should be similar in effectiveness / filtration
