does it not suffer from heat soak???. Nice car though mate...

The thing with turbo motors is, the air goes through a baking hot turbo, is then compressed (which heats it up anyway) and is cooled by an intercooler on its way to the intake manifold. It won't make much of a difference! Now on a normally aspirated car that has the filter just before the intake manifold, then temperature will make some difference!

I do! A drilled airbox with a green filter. I have noticed very little performance gain but loads more noise on full throttle and the DV too (just from the holes in the box and the thinner filter I guess :shrug:). Heat soak is not a massive issue really on a turbo motor I don't think!
 
fair enough,do you think id get the sound gains and possible performance gains with making the intake bigger and the intake on the airbox bigger. iknow either way it wont make miracles.

You probably would if you got a large flexible feed going into the box and you enlarge the opening in the box. This would be cheaper than getting a PD160 intake too! TBH the reason I drilled the box was because I had it out anyway to mend my washer bottle hose and it was very simple to do! You would have to route the feed somewhere too! The best and easiest way to get the gains really is to buy an induction kit I suppose. Most people just get the PD160 intake and green filter so that it looks OEM and subtle. :)
 
i like it subtle i already have the cupra intake as i drive a cupra,im not sure why everyone raves about it but then i havent seen the smaller intake so i cant really comment on it. id have a cone filter straight away if i knew i could relocate the filter behind the s badge.

You will probably notice a difference with a performance filter in the standard airbox. Some people remove the flap at the front of the Cupra pipe. I reckon for the most noticeable difference you should go for an open cone filter (induction kit). :) Something I might do in the future too. ;)
 
well the one i have found for the car is the pipercross viper induction kit but does it come with a thing to plug the air flow plug into so it doesnt make my dash board light up like a christmas tree?????
 
i got a k&n in my 1.2 but never had a cold feed, never actually thot about it till today funilly enuf, and not thinking that all my induction kit is doing is sucking in hot air n making a noise, and drinking fuel, im gettin no performance enhancment because i have no cold feed, wheres the best location on the front of the beeza to run a feed pipe from?
 
ive got an open cone on my fr, standard SMIC. If i go out on a decent run, then feel the filter afterwards, its sometimes warm but mostly cool to touch. it isnt a loud roar you get, you can hear sucking, whistling nosies and the DV is louder too. sounds cool!
 
Only had my cone filter on a few weeks and i love it, the sound is great. Not bad for a cheapish Induction kit
