Hello all,
have just replaced my old cupra with a new one and it i am now wanting to find a way to connect my ipod to the car and be able to control it through the steering wheel controls, i think i have three basic option so any advice on which of these is best or anything that youve got and i havent thought of please suggest.

1, official seat ipod connection kit, i believe that this enable controls on wheel to be used to control the ipod.

2, use my old pioneer deh-8600, with hideaway ipod unit, but not sure if can get something to still enable the use of the steering wheel controls for both stereo and ipod.

3, harmon kardon plug and play unit, looks alright but dont like wires and where would the screen go?

any help appreciated, am fully aware of the aux input but get bored easily so need to be able to control the ipod on the move.

cheers.

not sure if it will work... does anyone know if the Seat Alana Radio will work with this?
It says it is compatible with 8-pin ISO connector.. will that work? (i dont have a cd changer in the car)

i can reply quite comprehensively.

i tried the harmon kardon drive and play in 2006 when i got my 06 Sport, as i wanted to keep it looking standard and was looking for something functional.

it looked pimp as hell, had the screen in the lower right corner of the dash, and the control knob fixed to the left of the steering wheel.

functionality was great as it works just like the click wheel,

however i couldn't get a digital connection out of it. followed all instructions just could not get a decent signal to the stereo, it seems to just use the fm transmitter no matter what u tell it to do. i ripped it out and sold it on, lost about £30 on it, piece of junk it was, nice as it looked.

---

official Seat one - and the Dension kits - same thing - work top notch as they plug into cd changer port - proper connection, and retain steering wheel controls.

however, xcarlink do one - xcarlink.co.uk.
i bought the VW one as they tend to be cheaper than the Seat ones. - work fine with my ALANA mp3 stereo, and the steering wheel controls work.
i bought it off ebay for just under £45 delivered.
has a 3.5mm plug too for other mp3 players, phones with audio out etc, and will even work with a CD changer plugged in aswell!! not that you'd want that with an ipod i guess.

hope this helps.

not VW stereo mate, VW ipod kit.

if you go to www.xcarlink.co.uk they do ipod kits for different car makes models stereos etc.

my dad has a VW bora with Gamma radio 6cd double din unit, and a VW xcarlink adaptor - means he can have ipod and changer both connected

anyway i wanted one for my seat to keep steering wheel controls, but the seat ones were more expensive, so i tried his VW one, and it worked, so i bought a VW one!

got it off ebay, just search for xcarlink + ipod

its nothing like the first link. it is the same as the 2nd. which would be nice and cheap if they weren't charging 45 euros postage to uk!!

mine was from this guy...
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Digi-Connections

appologies it doesnt say xcarlink on the title, but thats what it is.
VW one works with Alana stereo. and steering controls.
