what about if you log 4th gear 2000rpm, and hold it WOT to the redline?

but then your car isn't running standard code is it?

Long shot but knock sensors are essentially just microphones, they have to be tightened to a specific torque so that they give correct readings. If there is a noise in the engine bay at the same sort of frequency & amplitude as detonation, it's possible that it could be triggering the sensor with a false reading. If I had a car that was pulling unusually large amounts of timing on a conservative map, I'd (a) check the condition/torque of the knock sensor and (b) look for confirmation other than timing pull in VAG-COM, that det was actually occurring - i.e check the K.S. is telling the truth.

Intresting read.

Tis true.

uprated engine mounts and dogbones can make them play up too, mogan's TT suffered a similar prob, high cf's he came to conclusion, it was his mods, james lcr, always had a code thrown too, did you sort this mate?

Dam dude, gutted for you!
Jabba seem have the Knowledge to sort it (of what I've read of them).
I had mine RR'd yesterday at Powerstation and the results/plot is in my sig. I'd like to say it may help but I'm running stock exhaust and IC's so its not a great comparison :(

Wow 70bhp transmission losses, the last run I did at awesome I got 10!! Did you do a before run?

unfortunately i didnt have time today to do some logging! :(

so hopefully 2mo i will! :)

my logs!

did some logging tonight...

good news! (i think!)

i only saw three 3s (all in the 3rd cylinder)...

0......0......3......0......@ 6680rpm (in 3rd)

0......0......3......0......@ 5680rpm (in 4th)
0......0......3......0......@ 5840rpm (in 4th)

whereas the other day with sainsbury's super in i was getting lots of 3s...

2.3......3......2.3......1.5......@ 5360rpm
0........3.8......3.........3.......@ 5520rpm

so it seams using optimax has helped me!?

so hopefully on thursday jabba wont be seein any 6s or 7s or even 11s when they remap it!

wat u guys think?

james :)

i remember how pleased they were when i took mine up there and told them it was full of optimax. must make some difference when mapping. im sure they`ll sort it

the thing is - if they're able to do a custom map, why can't they customise the timing map to suit lower octane fuel?

10 losses is not real.
only dyno which reports those level losses is Dynojet

be intresting to map a car to optimax and map one to 95. power difference?

Its not the first time ive heard people question there custom maps. For something that’s totally custom they seem to have some funny boundaries, as if it was just a glorified sps system like on the revo.

im happy with mine. i guess the harder you push the engine the hotter it all gets so 95 ron will try to ignite too early. that would reduce power by along way. must be hard to mapp like that. i get a noticable difference if im forced to use 98 ron.
